Samsung Galaxy S25 family to cut costs in display technology

An intriguing new rumor claims these phones' screens won't match the iPhone 16 Pro and Google Pixel 9 Pro.

Best, 25 Oct 2024Samsung is becoming too greedy. Bro and when it wasnt??? Good old S4 cost 400 brand new. Since then every new flagship cost 100 more for just updated CPU.

With the increase in cost for Snapdragon SOC they're cutting costs on the display. So Samsung are betting on the 40% efficiency claims made by qualcomm to deliver improved battery life still. Shame though as we could've seen even better battery life and higher brightness with the m14 screens

I'd be careful with that info, the supposed sources are far from reliable. Some material supplier said that? How the hell would they know what is built from those supplied materials, let alone that this is meant for the S25 line? Also, Samsung said that the cameras and displays of the S25 line will be upgraded to "top-of-the-line" specs and I'd rather believe that statement. It is WAY more likely to be true than this nonsense.

but i think there COULD be some merit to your claims, i used to say that the S24 Ultra's display aint all that great cus it seems matte to me, maybe that's why you think it looks lifeless? food for thought. but you just seem stupid to me so idk.

I have 30 years of experience using them. And my scratched-while-in-an-official-case S24 Ultra with bleak, washed-out colors may have the highest price tag ever and official specs touted as the best ever, and yet neither the performance nor display look like that in real life. It looks like a cheap mess. Like someone disfigured the Note so badly that it's borderline unpleasant to use it. Oh yeah and did I tell you the phone is burning hot when playing games? It's THE SAME OR WORSE hot like the Note20 Ultra, but Note was much thinner and had (according to the public) the worst processor in the world Exynos 990 so it had a right to get hot. Also I still cannot play on highest quality because the game then becomes unplayable.

I hate this company so much.

You seem to think Natural mode isn't anything to go by, well genius, Natural mode/color accuracy alongside brightness are the primary differentiators for these screens. Viewing angle differences are minute since they are OLEDs but the color tints of the different manufacturers is noticeable but still not significant.

Gamma tracking, PQ EOTF tracking, Greyscale accuracy, white balance accuracy, color accuracy, all of these are the main differentiators between a normal and a pro-grade display. It's not like these phones have 80% Rec.2020 coverage like the QD-OLEDs, they even find it hard to fully cover the DCI-P3 color space, hovering around 95-99% (which is good enough imo).

I truly don't know what metric you're using to say the Note20 Ultra was better.

The Android Freak, 26 Oct 2024It's still good enough till One UI 8 and little more. I don't know, S23U is already starting to lag times, also overheating. I don't even download a lot of apps.

You seem to have been brainwashed by social media influencers into thinking that cheaper displays with washed out colors are superior to beautiful, vibrant images. Natural mode was always available to people who do advanced photography editing on a mobile phone (who really does that?).

Even with updated software it's not possible to go back to the original Note screen, because the technology is clearly different – and not for the better. With all seriousness, going from the Note20 Ultra to the S24 Ultra is like going from a plasma TV to LCD. Resolution is the same, but colors are just not there.

Note20 Ultra has (or had?) the best screen of any device on the planet verified by independent lab testing, so it's not just me having an opinion. You can easily google everything if you're actually interested in learning something and not just hating on a device you obviously never used.

Don't worry, I'm not taking your faded colors away, it seems every manufacturer will happily give them to you from now on and you are going to applaud it like the good boy that you are.
The screen looks cheap even though I paid €1750 for 1TB version (almost twice as much than for the Note), and yet I have the same storage as on the Note20 Ultra - how did that happen? Not only that, now there are horrible looking fat bezels around the display and with the official €50 Steven Wilson case the device looks like a tank. The case turned yellow after about 3 months, and even though I always use it, the phone is scratched on its “titanium” sides, because unlike with previous official accessories, dirt can now get inside the case. This will lower the trade-in price which is probably another tactic they count on to increase profits (nothing against increasing profits, but I hate decreased quality). The screen has countless micro scratches too, this was never an issue with the Note20 Ultra. Check out video drop tests from the time to see its durability. Of course it breaks at some fall distance, but check comparison videos with the top of the line iPhone to see the difference as it break much later and less seriously than the iPhone. I remember there was a great comparison video with the same testing conditions for both devices, I'm sure it is still on YT. Also, the camera housing never breaks because it's that sturdy without any gorilla glass. Which is just a marketing term anyway, every 1-2 years the glass is supposedly 20% sturdier. We're at about 300% now and devices still break the same.

30% higher efficiency means 30% less power consumption for M14 VS M13.
Since the display is one of the biggest Battery-consuming elements of a smartphone, Samsung is deliberately taking a hit on the battery life of its flagship devices.
I don't think they are doing this just in order to save a few pennies but they might have some shortages of M14 material that they prefer to sell for good money to competing manufacturers rather than to implement it in its own devices.
