28 October 2024
The ban is a direct result of Apple's unmet investment commitments in the country.

Apple ask Indonesian Govt a 50 YEARS tax-free operations for them in exchange of them complying the Indonesian requirements

    there is an update guys..

apple sending mail to Indonesian govt, they request discussion about this matter
this indicates apple do concern and need Indonesia"s market

however, the content about the letter or what is apple request is yet to be published
....maybe they willing to negotiate about taxes...from 50 years to 49 tax free...or instead, the demanding 100 years tax free in exchange for 1 small official store...

50 year tax free requirement, that's so crazy

Every soul in Indonesia know that the actual reason it's because not enough money goes to the government pocket, even after they put tax on everything

Agus Ngamuk, 29 Oct 2024What a load of BS. I am literally Javanese but enjoys close... moreas a Javanese who lived in a small city in Pandalungan area (area that located in the easternmost part of Java), i agree with you.
the so-called 'development of Java' are mostly Jakarta and surrounding area (West Java and northen part of Java).
while the development in Pandalungan here are literally the same with other region outside of Java (maybe less).
the difference is we don't complain much, we just accept it and make peace with it (or as Javanese said 'nrimo lan legowo')
we made progress in recent years no thanks to government, but to hardworking people in Jember and Banyuwangi and surrounding area, we finally being noticed by the government in Surabaya and Jakarta.
              for example,
do people know that there's traffic jam in main road that connecting Pandalungan area that happens almost every day?
we asked government many times to fix it to.no avail.
but after the JFC event became big and famous, the government finally started to fix it.
nowadays the traffic jam is still there not as chaotic as before.
so please stop being racist to Javanese people,
we're in the same boat here.

              back to topic,
when the Indonesian government made the TKDN rules in 2017.
Apple stated that they didn't want to follow it,
so the government tweaked the rules a bit so Apple could still sell their products in Indonesia.
fast forward to 2024. Apple still doesn't follow all those tweaked rules yet, but has the audacity to ask tax holiday for 50 years.
that's the reason why it was banned in Indonesia.

Anonymous, 29 Oct 202440% local content? aha! no i know where those pesky bloat ... moreWhat a load of BS. I am literally Javanese but enjoys close to none urban development. By "Java" you probably mean Jakarta and JaBoDeTaBek, heck even if we compare my city (a Javanese city) to Palembang (a Sumatran city) then the latter is 10000% better developed. If we compare it to Makassar, Medan, Ubud, Singkawang, my city is still behind even though it's Javanese.
You see Palembang has LRT, the FIRST LRT in Indonesia even. By your logic then LRT can only be built in Java which is false. Even though my city is a Surakartan satellite city, public transportation is pretty much nonexistent, compare that to the cities I mentioned before.
Verdict: Stop being a rac!st a-hole and see the truth. Literally the biggest investment and land development in Indonesian history is in IKN, Kalimantan.

aha! no i know where those pesky bloat on smartphone sold in indonesia coming from!
but yeah both samsung and sony have factor,, i mean asssembly point to "assamble" various component into finished product, which manufactured overseas. YES! even for something as easily produced as plastic body for the phone, which make the entire point of intent of those rule (using local material to make their finished product) useless!

Even if some nepo baby got big contract they will hire local line worker, probably thousands, they aren't doing it alone. This will spur economy with how the workers will probably buy foods from local warungs, and they will have the money to buy other things for themselves and their families, therefore boosting local economy, Apple will pay taxes which is used for compensate BPJS deficit and other public services. In an ideal world said nepo baby shouldn't exist, but in reality it exist, even corrupt civilian like PP, FPI, and tukang parkir, or simply normal civilian who stole crashed cargoes. The corrupt mindset is deeply entrenched in Indonesian society, whether it's the rich or the poor, and it's not going anywhere soon.
That being said, the people who benefit from Apple actually finishing their agreement for the better or worse everyone win; Nepo baby got contract (if it were no less than a conspiracy theory), locals got jobs, Indonesia get an increase in GDP, Apple get to do business in Indonesia, no one loses, not yourself, nor me.
