The me... moreSo is your point literally about comparing the memory bandwidth of M4 (which you intentionally didn't mention to prove your point) to that of RTX 4090, hence suggesting that Apple shouldn't have been ambiguous about what they are exactly comparing to in their presentation? In that case I somewhat understand what you're on about - It definitely would've been nicer if Apple straight up stated that they were pitting their M4 series against laptop SoCs (I wouldn't call the current Lunar Lake lineup, Snapdragon X Elite nor Ryzen AI 300 a tablet chip) of a similar power envelope and directly calling out their names. "AI PC" could mean literally anything, after all.

Anonymous, 30 Oct 2024Exactly what many people wish. we're getting that, slowly. Intel's newest laptop processor series, Lunar Lake, is quite good. The past 1-2 years have been exceptional for Windows laptop processors, we got Qualcomm's excellent X Elite chips, AMD's Ryzen AI series and Intel's Core Ultra series. These are leaps and bounds ahead of previous chips.

The me... moreall that is cool and all but have you seen Apple's efficiency? Apple ain't the fastest but they're the coolest, make the quietest "PCs" and their stuff is like super compact. If we're strictly talking about performance then I'd say Apple gives good enough performance to get most stuff done since on Mac, lots of software is well optimized.
But for the price it's just a scam basically. You're better off building a Ryzen EPYC PC with a 90 series GPU from NVIDIA. Even then you're gonna have money left lol. Apple's stuff is only good for someone who wants a low-key PC solution that is super fast in terms of CPU processes but only "gets the job done" in terms of GPU.

Wow...
Apple compared it's M4 chips with M1 chips, a latest chip against chip from 3 generations back 👏🏽👏🏽

The memory bandwidth of a GeForce RTX 4090 is 1.01 TERA BYTES PER SECOND. Which is eight times faster than what Apple claims. Because Apple falsely claim PC AI hardware maxes out at an eights of what it really do.
If Apple wants to compare their "PC hardware" with real PC hardware in numbers, the only way they don't lose biggly is by misrepresenting a specific tablet processor as the peak of PC AI.

If you take M4 Max's bandwidth figure, 1.01TB / 546GB = approximately 1.92 times faster.
"AI PC" is most likely referring to these Lunar Lake/Snapdragon X Elite/Ryzen AI 300 series powered laptops that are similar in weight and size, not RTX 4090 powered ones that drink battery juice like a bottle of water.

In terms of the raw graphical performance, however, they have made plenty of comparisons (which makes sense because M3 Max's iGPU is only ~7% slower than RTX 4080 Laptop in GFXBench).

Here's a valid PC AI response to your claim: A PC with a GeForce RTX 4090 use zero Watts of power, up to 24 hours a day*. That is infinitely better than ANY Apple processors.
(* Depending on how many hours it is powered on. Lies are easy, if you only compare what you want to compare.

They're making that comparison because it's within the same power envelope as the M4 chips. Apple is like black magic when it comes to power efficiency. Even with higher powered Arrow Lake-H chips on mobile, Apple will still dominate.

Full disclosure about PC AI hardware. The memory bandwidth of a GeForce RTX 4090 is 1.01 TERA BYTES PER SECOND. Which is eight times faster than what Apple claims. What is more important, PC hardware is smarter designed, with memory designed specifically for component needs, while Apple use share memory for everything. AI and graphics primarily require as much bandwidth as possible, while processors focuses on low latency on random data processing, because the latter obviously needs to do a lot of different things.
Lastly, PC AI hardware is going PCIE 5.0 as we speak. The imminent GeForce RTX 5080 is supposed to deliver 1.5 TB/s memory bandwidth. Three times of the most extreme Apple hardware. And that won't even the the top of the line RTX 5000. PC is and always will be the racing masters.
