I don't think there is a single major carrier in America that has charged you for an iPhone in the last decade. You either get the vanilla iPhone for free without trade in or the pro models with trade in. The way they get ya is they pay off the phone for you one month at a time as long as you stay with them, the best part of that though is the carriers poach customers and will pay off your phone to switch to them so you are never really stuck lol

As a lay person, I can tell you that there just isn't enough "new stuff" in the iPhone 16 that would push me to upgrade. It looks like Apple is taking a back seat and playing it safe. Nobody cares about AI now - the buzz around that is fading away quickly.

There is no reason for base models to exist. They should just release the pro variants as only variants and keep selling older models at discounted rates every passing year. iPhone 13 is selling more than all iphone 16 and 16pro.

Americans taking on debt to finance a fricking phone is not "cheap" they're getting duped.

At this rate... I think Apple will just have the news SE at the low end and cut both plus and normal.
It's a huge surprise the normal 16's sales is in the same ballpark as the plus which is in a range where Apple consider cutting the product line.

That’s why the Mobile Plans are running into $100-$150 in USA, carriers happily over charging the customers by selling over priced iPhones! Customers, Mobile Providers and Apple all happily!

So it has more or less the same sales that the 12 and 13 minis had, which invalidates the reason why Apple discontinued those models. They need to try and offer a mini Pro, which would probably sell like hot cakes.

In Europe, Asia and anywhere else in the world, Apple devices through carrier are whopping 20-30% more expensive. Example getting an iphone through German or Bosnian or Turkish or Russian telecommunications carrier not only NOT allows you to trade in your old phone but also overcharge you for your iphone by 20% more than a Tech Retail Chain would charge you or 30% more from a Smartphone Repair shop which also sells new phones. And over 50% more expensive than a used version of the same model.

The majority of people are on 36 month (3 years) "contracts" where they trade in their previous iPhone and get the newest iPhone for free with the phone being paid off for them over the next 36 months as long as they stay on that carrier plan.
