It would be a problem if you overly brighten darker skin tones or make light-coloured skins appear much darker than they actually are.

In my opinion, this is simply a campaign to stand out from the cheaper competition and justify higher prices. You address a topic where the respective region/group reacts sensitively and the brand is talked about. This makes them popular and increases smartphone sales. Pure marketing calculation and not a ‘fight against incorrect skin tones’.

I think this issue is mainly on Chinese phones. Worse is the skin smoothening.

Even the Chinese are unaware that Transsion exists and that they are a Chinese brand so it's not surprising that you don't know them as well.

Anonymous, 04 Nov 2024Yeah, this will save the world...Actuslly, this is how Transsion sells well in Africa. It's not as shallow as you think it is. Lots of models have perma-beautification settings it's no longer funny like Samsung in Korea.

Darth Caesium, 04 Nov 2024They could make more money out of this by selling licences ... morenot Samsung and Apple, they're too greedy for something like this. Vivo, Oppo or Xiaomi could've done this for the global market but they seem to not take the global market that seriously and since China is their main market and Chinese people like "fair" skin/filtered looks, would you really blame these manufacturers for not spending money on this?
I just wish they had both the filtered look for the Chinese/Asian market and the realistic look. BUT TBH, China gets a bad rap, western filters are just as sneaky imo!!

Plus, they'd raise more awareness about their brand, which is important for a company like Tecno that is virtually unknown in certain parts of the world.
