Mytyping, 8 hours agoEh? Only 10 million dollars? How disrespectful. Not even an... moreThat $10M was their remaining deficit from the promised $100M investment. They only paid 10M now since they invested $90M already.
Indonesian govt just wants them to pay up lol.

Anonymous, 5 hours agoSo, when companies like Apple takes advantage of countries ... moreThey went to China because of cheap but skilled labor. All talk about US manufacturing won't mean anything when labor isn't cheap and no Americans want to work under Asian style conditions.

Anonymous, 4 hours agoApple has no requirement to set up a factory in Indonesia. ... moreHow does the Indonesian government try to hold its citizens hostage?
What Indonesia asks for is simple: if you want to grab our citizens money with your overpriced status symbols by exploiting our inability to do the same with your country, then you have to give us something in return.
In this case, Indonesia asks for a local factory to create job opportunities and to keep the effects of exploitment low.

Anonymous, 5 hours agoSo, when companies like Apple takes advantage of countries ... moreApple has no requirement to set up a factory in Indonesia. This is a country policy allowing outside companies to sell product there under certain circumstances. It's all on Indonesian government and not Apple's responsibility.
Governments often try to hold their citizens hostage from companies in ordered to persuade them to give them money and/or economic boosts.

I like how Chinese phone companies take advantage of opportunities in emerging countries to invest and gain market share and a sustainable industrial base, unlike Western companies that look at emerging developing countries with contempt and prefer not to invest unless there is a client government that allows them to trick and steal like what happens in my country.

So, when companies like Apple takes advantage of countries to get factories and free trained personell, they get bribes in the tens of BILLIONS, but when they have to set up a factory, the "almost" invest ten million bucks?
I'm guessing the reason Apple is now moving their R&D department from California to China is because the Americans didn't want to give them a few billions.

Mytyping, 8 hours agoEh? Only 10 million dollars? How disrespectful. Not even an... moreLike I said, Apple doesn't actually care about Indonesia. The risk vs benefit is too big to establish an actual shop there. India has Foxconn, while Vietnam is less restrictive for foreign investments.
