Google Messages will gain the ability to send original quality photos over RCS

05 November 2024
Users will get a choice between sending compressed images (faster, less data used) and original quality (better quality, obviously, but it uses up your data plan).

Salvador , 11 Nov 2024Yeah, that's nothing new. All you have to do is go in... moreApparently you're wrong. It's a problem with Google Messages (which you supposedly use on your Pixel) resizeing and resampling photos even with that option off.

Samsung Messages seems to do it right, according to this:

Ridiculous that we're even discussing downscaling to 2-3 MP in 2024 when we had 30+ MP cameras (I mean real cameras where it makes a significant difference, not cameras on phones) more than a decade ago.

Yeah, that's nothing new. All you have to do is go into message settings and activate or deactivate send photos faster. With it activated, it sends it fast but with it deactivated, it sends it full resolution. I love how non pixel owners post about small tweaks like we can't already to that. 😂😂😂😂

apple and google trying to compete each other for the sake of color bubbles is non-sense. whatsapp is already the mainstream messaging platform for more than 15 years.

Joe, 05 Nov 2024Wow I don't know of a single person in my friends/fami... moreThat's American problem, worldwide people either use WhatsApp or Telegram (in some specific countries WeChat).

This getting interesting if we can send via RCS images with better than a minecraft pixel quality with a better than atari, ZX Spectrum or Amiga graphic.

Note: Google Messages used to be able to send full-size images, but this went away somewhere between 2021-2023. So they're just adding back a feature that they previously removed now that Apple is supporting it.

Joe, 05 Nov 2024Wow I don't know of a single person in my friends/fami... moreCarrier support for 1. If you talking worldwide adoption then you need to take in to account carrier support. It's the one thing that stops RCS adoption, due to Google and native Carriers not working out a proper deal, it is still way slower in some regions than WhatsApp or even SMS. e.g if I send an RCS message to my wife on her one sim ( DS phone) who isn't the same carrier as me, it sometimes takes 10-15mins for the message to arrive, while sending an SMS or WhatsApp message is 1-5mins.

                    Verified information.

The RCS Google service uses fictitious SMS, connected to Google accounts already created locally and with destination towards Us Server.

The cost of fictitious SMS is not free, it can take place several times during the week and goes to affect the residual credit of both rechargeable and subscriptions. (the type of subscription does not make a difference)

It is an already present problem, but to which Goole has not yet put a piece.

So, the major advice so far, is to use alternative and above all free and without "surprises" messaging services.

BBM Messenger had the option of sending actual original photos for years, in addition to many other "advanced" features, some of which are still unavailable in other to me known apps.
A shame it will no longer be available aside for enterprise usage, so if someone knows of a messenger that can handle actual high-res photos, please do tell. Preferably a paid app that has nothing to do with Facebook, Google and the likes.

plus you could always send them in original quality as Document in whatsapp
