Darth Caesium, 10 hours agoWell, I doubt 7" displays will ever be mainstream, but... more6.9" and 7" is basically the same but it's more about the message yk?

And i don't mind it not being mainstream, but at least BE THERE, yk? Like, there's literally no new 7 inch+ phones. Kinda sad.

And yes! I agree with you. More choice is always good!! 5.8-6" compact phones and 6.9-7.5" ULTRA phones. I think that's how things should be because things have kind of become constant in the 6.3-6.82" range, there's no variation it seems. And larger phones will naturally allow bigger cameras to be fitted, so imagine an X100 Ultra-esque camera setup alongside a 1/2" 2-2.5x intermediate zoom and/or a farther reaching super telephoto. That'd be crazyyyy.

This year has been quite great in terms of screen, chipset and battery. I hope next year we get improvements in size, speakers, charging and cameras like variable aperture needs to be mandatory on Ultra phones, UW cams need to be better on nearly all phones, better HDR videography capabilities like Sony's HLG, etc. Like the Zenfone 10 had the best speakers i've heard in a sub 6 inch non front speaker phone, so I'm sure others can do better if they tried.

Can we please use this tech to make a small(er) phone with a 6 inch 1080p screen?

It means that you get a great selfie camera for when you don't want to/are unable to take selfies with the phone in an unfolded position, but can also get even better selfies outside of that.

Is this niche? Yes. Absolutely. Do I still want it? Hell YES!!! An under-display selfie camera for the inner screen isn't good enough even for video calling, so why should such a premium device have to have such a mediocre experience with that? Also, no punchole on the front either, which is an absolute win in my books.

jiyen235, 12 hours ago6.85 only? I'm not saying it's small but they... moreWell, I doubt 7" displays will ever be mainstream, but I was hoping that the ZTE nubia RedMagic 10 series would have 7" displays precisely because it makes sense to have a large display on a gaming phone. Personally, I prefer 6.3-6.5" displays that are 20:9, but I can completely see why it would be beneficial to gave an extra large display for something like this. Plus, it's nice to see phones that are in less popular screen sizes, because it means that there is a phone somewhere out there that serves people with less mainstream preferences. I would be especially happy if the market had both a 5.8" flagship and a 7" flagship released in the same year (and same with other price tiers), because it would give consumers more choice and make more people happy.

Then it still has a chin to ruin the symmetrical bezels...

Stoon, 12 hours agothey should ditch tjat underdisplay camera .... what's... moreMaybe because they want an uninterrupted screen and people still want a selfie camera and can live with that?

So, it’s not a 7” display after all? The 16 Pro Max still has a bigger screen.

Like, they are reliable and more cost effective than a holepunch.

If you're Edward Snowden, consider to put a duct tape on the cameras.

What about 7 inches display? What's the point of hype if you're making it even smaller than iPhone

                                6.85 only?

I'm not saying it's small but they advertised it as 7 inches or very close to it at least and acted like it was gonna be revolutionary. This is an even smaller jump than the Note10+ to S20 Ultra/Note20 Ultra.

Samsung back in 2020 had a 6.9" mainstream flagship, the Mate 20 X was there as a really cool idea and we never really got any bigger phones for some reason even though bezels are super duper thin now. 6.7-6.82" has been the "peak" for most flagships and only now has Apple broken the barrier with 6.9" after the test Vivo did with the X Note.

Imagine if Vivo brought a 7.2" 6500 mah beast with the same camera setup as the X100 Ultra if not better, now THAT'D be an upgrade. Truly ULTRA

Stoon, 12 hours agothey should ditch tjat underdisplay camera .... what's... moreI don't think there's something that makes more sense on a gaming smartphone. Dude, gamers don't give two damns about selfies. They care about having a great gaming experience, with no interruptions on the display like a notch or a punchole, and bezels as small as possible. Like genuinely, your comment is the one making no sense 😂
