Here are the disadvantages of this phone:
Crapp-p-oled instead of amazing ips LCD screen that's actually good for your eyes.
        No audio jack
        No sd card slot
        No FM radio
        Nothing

        Advantages:
        Motorola
        Bootloader unlockable
Root possible on Motorola as well as custom ROM and custom recovery TWRP
        Snapdragon is good

Oh not again another good opportunity to release a great device was missed.
This electronic garbage is useless as is and will end up in the ocean or on the landfill sooner rather than later. It's dead on arrival DoA as is.

Let me clarify my previous comment. When I asked for thermal test I was not referring to bench stress tests. I should have been more clear with my wording. What I was trying to say is if the reviewer could comment on whether they feel the device becoming unusually hot during the use of the device. Like getting too hot to hold just by watching videos on 720p.

Ik my 6a gets hot bc the g1 tensor runs hot. That is a given.
My hypothesis for motorolas using a snapdragon 6 or 7 series getting warm is because of the slim design. I would just like to be sure out my own curiosity if the cause is slim design or the new generation of sd they have inside.

The Motorola Edge 50 is a capable device despite its shorter software support, so-so battery life, and not-so-impressive chipset. Be that as it may, the handset should appeal to anyone seeking a stylish yet durable design, versatile cameras, lovely display, fast charging speeds, and reliable performance for everyday use.

The Active Score is nothing short of appalling—falling well below mediocrity! It essentially matches the dismal performance of the S23 FE Snapdragon, which at least had the excuse of a 4500mAh battery. This result is particularly shocking when compared to Motorola’s other offerings, such as the Edge 40 Pro, Edge 50 Neo, Edge 50 Pro, and Edge 50 Ultra, all of which boast impressive, almost iPhone-like battery efficiency relative to their battery sizes. Indeed, I was hoping to see 14-15h instead.

This glaring flaw undermines what could have been an otherwise well-rounded, versatile midrange smartphone. While battery life may not always be the most important feature in the positive sense, its importance cannot be overstated in the negative sense—a device with poor battery life renders all other strengths moot: a subpar battery life is a deal-breaker that no other feature can compensate for.

It’s little surprise, then, that this device was sold in France for just €380 with Moto Buds Plus through official resellers, despite being listed at €599 on Motorola’s own website. This smartphone, quite frankly, should never have existed. Period.

A better alternative would be the Edge 50 Neo with a 5000mAh battery, Gorilla Glass 5 or 6, UFS 3.0 or 3.1 storage, and an aluminum frame—an ideal 12GB/512GB device at the €599 price point.

Will the review take longer than Edge 50 Neo review?

Hikari, 12 Nov 2024not everyone who wants to play games will afford a flagship... moreYou dont need a flagship phone for gaming. There are lots of phones for gaming that are in budget to middle class range. Like Poco X6 Pro that is under 300 euro and is with D8300U that is close to what 7+ gen 3 is.

Also dont take it out of context. I wrote that do you play some serious game that heat up the phone. I dindt talk about using some game to test heating on a phone. I also asked what is the abuse the phone finds it's self in to be able to over heat.

The guy who watch youtube and phone heats up probably have like 10 apps open in the background too and that is probably the cause of overheating

The thing i dont understand is that all these phones today that have like Antutu score over 800.000 points can open up apps fast enough so you dont need to leave them open in the background for multitasking. Holding it open uses resource that makes the heat.

The Edge 50, Neo and Fusion models got screwed with the potato UFS 2.2 storage speed, otherwise they would have been decent midrangers.

Stop lying! I'm watching Youtube videos and multitasking without any problem on Sony Xperia Z2 but Edge 50 is much better in every way.

This is a joke of a phone, processing time is slow as hell. Multitasking is impossible and watching YouTube videos are even problem for him. All around it is a total disappoinment for me !!!

Glad you are finally reviewing it. I had to choose between the Edge 50 and the Neo six weeks ago. I was persuaded by the 50's feel and styling but really interested to see how they compare in your standardised tests. PS make sure you get the OS and security upgrade policy right - it's NOT 5 and 5.

Moto really did good with Edge 50 series . I hope they improve battery life in next series maybe include sd card and music jack too 🤞🤞🤞

I'm using Edge 50 ultra. Good phone.

really liking their simple timeless designs.. the case material reminds of the original 1st or 2nd gen OnePlus phones.. a refreshing break from all the glossy stuff..
