No oem skin/proprietary OS to worry about and there are even older laptop models than mine. I was using a 2012 laptop prior to that. Could probably still use it today by installing Linux or just Win10 that isn't that resource hungry.

Both have user replacaeble drives and rams and not soldered like Apple devices.

Apple seems to have periods of innovation, and then abject complacency regarding what people actually want and need. I watched them do this through the Gil Amelio era, and they're doing it again. They took pO2 off the Apple Watch, which saved many lives during Covid, and they seem to have lost their initiative to sustain loyal users of the 27" iMac. (Have you priced the Studio Display lately?) I never get a survey asking, "How can we make Apple products better?" or "What Apple products do you want?". Instead all we get is a band of gold, and the memories of what love could be.

Just recently, we had people with PC that probably started on Windows 7 end up their run with Windows 10 22H2.

A decade, and thats without them tweaking the OS to move to 11 or something else. Now, go check if any of the Macs from 2009-2012 are faring that well nowadays, and they probably costed like 3 times the value of a common pc of their timd

Anonymous, 11 Nov 2024Yeah, washing off labels from all circuits is the business ... moreWhile i agree 99% with this statement with Apple's products there have been a multitude of countless anecdotes peovwn where Apple supports their pC's for up the 6yrs, 7 yrs yet ONLY at THE Apple stores in Cupertino, CA!

Til this day NO other PC manufacturer has even come close!

The upgradeability will most likely negate the awesome speeds and possi by prevent warranty by Apple - a VERY crucial part to customers having highest resale value of any comouting produ ts after 3yrs! More importantly no link youve shared to help our editor correct any mistakes

The new Mac Mini is basically an ARM SBC like the raspberry pi in a custom case. Everything is soldiered on and not meant to be replaced.

What's the point of tearing it down when it got 0 user upgradeable parts.

Or, user upgradeable but hard to tear it down.

Complete unnecessary fruit shepple article, blabbering something subjective about what "good" pc components should look like.

MeLE Quieter4C or even some aliexpress mini pcs look just as nice, if not better, from the inside and outside, and would still have way enough performance for the average web and office user, at a fraction of the price. All that while having no fan which starts to screech in a few years because of dust accumulation.

Oh, and it only runs Apple's software, until Apple decides you have to buy a new one. A computer you lease.

I heard some company is working on offering ssds that can be used in the m4 mini or in the m4 pro mini which has a more non standard shape

how can you be this late to write an article about this and still be wrong? yeah its not a standard ssd, as those are just the cells and the driver is on board, but it is in fact upgradeable, and there are already videos of people swapping the base 128gb drive for other things.

Apple's designs are works of art. They blend beautiful designs with world class greediness at the same time. Innovating in greediness each year
