Anonymous, 19 Nov 2024Definitely worth paying 800 bucks extra for the 1.5mm diffe... moreJust for reference. My 1½ years old Flip 5 is in the 6mm range. It isn't an impressive number worthy of a new device category.
If someone would make a 3mm phone that's as durable as a regular phone, I'd be impressed.

Definitely worth paying 800 bucks extra for the 1.5mm difference, eh?
No wonder they're trying to hype this so hard. Barely noticeable difference, doubled price.

Given that it may be 6.6 inches and 6 mm++ thick.. It may be the same dimensions as a Samsung flip 6 unfolded. (And less wider)
So Apple may go back to a single-hand usage argument.. They will say, Pro phones are so large and unwieldy.. mini phones are too small to view stuff. We need a "third" category.. iPhone Air / Slim, slim and tall.. for the social media consumption people.. who wants to keep scrolling down.

Anonymous, 19 Nov 2024So another bend-gate is bound to happenThe iPad Pro 2024 did have a center spine in the middle that managed to hold the device together when bending horizontally, but not vertically.
You can't really bend an iPhone vertically, so if they do something similar to the center spine for the iPhone 17 Air, it MIGHT be able to avoid another Bendgate situation.
If Bendgate 2 does happen though then you can laugh at me. I won't mind. I don't want it to happen but knowing Apple, it might.

I Just Read, 19 Nov 2024These rumours lack an iota of common sense and in this case... moreBendgate was because they used cheap Chinese 6000 series aluminum, When they moved to 7000 series aluminum (harder than most steel) they got rid of the problem.
I dont see how this could be a good phone for anyone unless its super cheap like the SE. To make a modern phone thinner you have to make the thickest part of the phone thinner, the double stacked motherboard. To do this you now double the footprint of the motherboard and decrease the battery capacity.. WHY? Just to gain 2mm thinner phone for the Android spec sheet obsessed weirdos?

Do people care abolut thickness? I would much rather have 9-10mm thick phone with bigger battery than 6mm phone which will bend, when I will give it a bad look.

Thinner phone means thinner battery and frequent charging. In the end, it means earlier change of battery. Faster parts sales to increase revenue. 😂

lewein, 19 Nov 2024nobody asked for this, now the android OEMs will follow app... moreIt's good , let them produce mastery of the thin from factor. Phones are tiny and can't get bigger. If they master the thin form factor thry wou,d be able to make bigger again, either by adding s,ide in components or proper folds without making the end result overtly thick (because by then they'd have mastered the think design, so adding additional screen estate would not make the end result overly thick )
