It means actual presence in the country, aka an office, complete with all staff needed to run and support a business and its products. There’s a reason why Apple doesn’t bother opening up shop in Indonesia. It’s not worth the cost.
What kind of labor or jobs do you think this will provide? Again, Apple is investing to its own partners, not directly to the country. This is just an inside deal with the Taiwanese packaged in a way to seemingly meet the Indonesian government regulation. Apple is having the last laugh. 😆

Billy, 20 Nov 2024it doesn't matter if those companies leave indonesia, ... moreLOL. What job opportunities does Apple actually provide in Indonesia ?
There’s a reason Apple is a trillion dollar company. They’re not that stupid in navigating laws and regulations through workarounds.

Anonymous, 19 Nov 2024LOL. Investing isn't giving money for free.I think what Indonesia government have in mind is to have Apple to help create opportunities either in job position, tourism(Apple can launch their phone there), etc
Indonesia doesn't literally need the money but they want the things that come after it.

JustMe, 20 Nov 2024of course. but it can create jobs. duh!In this case, not necessarily. Apple is not investing directly. They’re not setting up shop. In turn, they simply invest their money into their existing partner manufacturers, who are already have presence in the country. They might be adding more jobs, but those Taiwanese partners are cheapskates and will probably just use the money for other things.

Current condition: Apple can still sell their iPhone 15 and iPads in Indonesia. However, new products like iPhone 16 and future iPads cannot be sold without meeting the TKDN (Indonesian local product criterion). Therefore, if they invest this so called 100 Mil USD as per what they are planning, it is just a way to secure future sales in Indonesia.
