Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra could be more expensive than its predecessor

20 November 2024
It all has to do with the costs Samsung itself is incurring.

Same everything but worse display. Reused same battery 5 years. Amazing stuff must have.

But tbh, this is more because of taxes than anything. I doubt it holds much value to the conversation around what the brands are doing to their prices

No matter how bad the samsung flagships are for their prices and yet every youtuber will gobble that shit up (Best display on a phone - S23/24 mfs using 8 bit panels that chew battery life with older materials). Poor poor western markets. All our options are get a giant brick running iOS if you want decent battery life and 2020 standard screens, or a terribly compromised (but better performing than the pixel) galaxy flagship. But I love hating on the chinese phones (even though I buy and use them)

oh come oooon it's insanely expensive already

Why is this a surprise? That Snapdragon 8 Elite is not cheap. People who are complaining about prices at this segment are people who cannot afford one to begin with. Furthermore in developed countries, people will get this under a contract, thus the price increase would only be just an additional few dollars per month.

The trend of making flagships more expensive every year has been going strong for a long time now. But, from 5 years ago, let's realize it, there have been only incremental improvements and no groundbreaking new features. The last thing is the foldables, and go back in time 5 years... what else?
Then they come with things like 'pantone colors' or let's use 10 grams of titanium and make a great buzz out of it...
I've had enough, I'll keep my actual phone until it doesn't turn on anymore. I guess it will occur in 4 years, then I'll check what good offer is around.

Well done.... Samsung less products sold.

Anonymous, 20 Nov 2024Meanwhile from iPhone X to iPhone 16 Pro Apple kept the sam... moreSamsung did the same btw. S10+ to s24+ is still $999.

A better match to Ultra would be Pro Max.

XS Max was 1099 and now 16 pro max is 1199. Still less of a hike than samsung, sure, but your model choices aren't the best.

WhoCaresTM, 20 Nov 2024Very convenient for you to compare the plus to the plus, in... moreI already acknowledged Plus was no longer the top version, and that the Ultra was raising prices. S10+ was not the big guy that year either. S10 5G was, and it costed $1299. You are attacking nothing here.

Comparing plus to a plus is not 'convenient', it's the logical conclusion. Ultra never replaced the plus, it was there to replace the note series. Note 20 Ultra was $1299. Note 10+ a year before that was $1049, but it wasn't the top dog, Note 10+ 5G was. Again, $1299.

Sure, if you go further than that, the prices were lower before. But explain to me what stood at the same price since then? Groceries? Gas? Technological parts? Fabric? Glass? Want a culprit for the price raise from S7, look at inflation. S7 costed $255 to produce. S24? S24 Ultra costed $469 and I doubt the regular S is any lower than $400. This is not counting R&D or other expenses.

I know you people love to complain about samsung, think that anyone not attacking them the same way you do are blind fanatics, and that their points are auto-invalid for some reason, but I will say this again: I am not supporting the price hike, nor am I indifferent to the removal of chargers from the box. Having the SDcard and 3.5mm jack taken away made me feel robbed too. But reality is reality, and if you're going to complain, do it properly. Don't be a fanatic, and don't be a blind hater.

Also, tell me what is 'less tech' about the new S series. What is less of those over the S7, except the stuff mentioned above?
The display? An LTPO that can go as down as 1Hz at demand.
The chipset? The upcoming 8 elite can literally run Cyberpunk2077 on it.
Cameras? Minimum 3 lenses on everything, and with purpose. With a telephoto that goes as close as 30x for the regular and 100x for the ultra.
Battery? Demolishes the old battery life and tops it in charging time.
Build quality? Likely needs 2 times the drops for the same damage.

If you mean less tech from S24 to S25, with the 'cheaper display', we have yet to see anything other than leaks. Even the chipset leaks changed sides 3 times. Other than that, the only thing thats less is tech change from generation to generation, but that much is expected with tech. At one point, you hit a wall, before making a big jump. Like stairs. Thats just how it is everywhere tech related. Breakouts and plateaus. Price hike is unnecessary, but less tech change isn't on anyone.

Again, I agree, the price hike is ridiculous for such minimal year over year upgrades, but your points are hollow. Want to praise iphone like everyone has been doing here? Try iphone 7 to iphone 16. $769 dollars for the i7 Plus. Literally less than the cheapest iphone 16, which released at $799. Oh wait, by your logic, since 7 Plus was the top dog of its time, it should go against i16 pro max. $1199. XS Max was $1099 btw. Or if you want to go the chinese route- oh wait, they weren't in the business that far back. Okay, let's try the modern ones. 14T pro? Sure, it costs $849, but it is a phone of its price. Nothing about it goes over S series, except the charging speed. Camera? Display? Software? Software support? Build quality? 14T Pro is a phone of its price, just like S24 and S24+ are.

                          What's your stance here?

You don't like the price hike? Sure, I agree! Even A series is ridiculous now. Todays A3x is old times A5x, and todays A5x is trying to be a smaller A7x, but its stupid. A50 was $350, now A55 is $550. Again, ridiculous.

You think the price hikes in the last few years are solely on samsung, and that it has nothing to do with anything in the world ever, and that since the first iphone was top of the line at the time and costed only $499, the new i16 pro max as its "replacement" should cost that too? Get better material.

Also, look up older phones like the S7 and S5.

We get less tech as time goes on, but we pay more for it. Not to mention the almost empty boxes the phones come in. I expect Samsung to stop adding the usbc cable as well.

Better buy oppoX8pro, more powerful, more battery capacity, charge faster, better camera set at reasonable price.

It's already too expensive. Good luck with that - coming from a Note/Ultra owner since 2014.

                                        S22 Ultra user here.
Why raising the price if the camera always stays on 200MP.
Another useless phone ever made, S23 Ultra was least good phone, S24 Ultra useless and this S25 Ultra will also useless phone too. Skip 1 year for S26 Ultra to get 320MP camera lens.
At this time i rather go S25 vanilla. Rumours said if the S25 Slim is great phone then maybe this will be the last S25 vanilla and s26 no longer manufacturing
