But while spending $6000 in an industry where DSLRs come with lens, in $400, I do have the right to expect near perfection and future proofing, isn't it?
I know it aims to snap sharp pics, but being a decent video recorder is a natural extension of photography.

Sony are going good in the budget mirrorless options, but they still don't have a proper contender against the mighty Canon R5 Mark II or R1.
R5 Mark II gives huge improvements in autofocus using AI, and 8K60, 4K120 in video and what not.
Sony's 8K30 video is not lossless either, only 8K20 is lossless. Damn!

And for me, the drawbacks ot brings aren't deal breakers. But for a professional photographer who wants the best there is and to dabble in a little bit of everything, then the global shutter tech is not exactly the best choice. It's fairly new tech still, though, so there's room for improvement, and I'm sure that eventually global shutter will replace stacked sensors.

S I R E, 20 Nov 2024Could've sworn that was there marketing term but yeah.... moreYes, that's global shutter. It is indeed quite a game changer for fast action, especially when compared to traditional stacked sensors. However, I listed the drawbacks of global shutter in my comment below this one, which kind of explains why Sony didn't use global shutter in the a1 II

Anonymous, 20 Nov 2024No global shutter system considering this is their flagship... moreGlobal shutter has a few disadvantages, like the performance at highest ISOs falls a tad behind peers and base ISO of 250 (as on the a9 III) blunts absolute IQ capabilities. Dynamic range also isn't the best. Global shutter is purely and specifically made for fast action photography, which is exactly what the a9 series is focused on. However, the flagship a1 models are supposed to be jack of all trades, swiss army knives, without too many or any drawbacks at all. Putting a global shutter in the a1 II would've brought the drawbacks I listed above. So it's a very logical move

David 040882, 20 Nov 2024Global illumination? You mean global shutter?Could've sworn that was there marketing term but yeah. The tech that would capture the whole frame simultaneously at once instead of the common sequential scan type (don't remember what exact term is). But the new one gets rid of rolling shutter problem, I liked it.
