They paid Apple and others, in my book Apple and party sold their "devoted customers" out. It's business and no business is in it for the user.

I still stand behind my statement. Google search is not a monopoly.

If users didn't have the ability to switch browser or to use another search engine then I would say yes they are enforcing their product.

But that is not the case here. The option to use any search engine or browser is given to the user.

Michalis, 21 Nov 2024You seem to not understand the definition of a monopoly. Could you define it for me in the context of google chrome?

I stopped using Google Chrome since 2020.

Samsung Internet is far better and safer than chrome.

Do the same things with youtube and its so influencer too .

Good 1 less bloatware in our smartphone .

Michalis, 21 Nov 2024You seem to not understand the definition of a monopoly. If you think from a different angle, monopoly gave us most of the things.
Because it's hard for new startups to invest and make something big.
There is profit to consumers, even if chrome goes away completely.
I am using brave that's completely based on chrome. That means brave will become "baseless".

People have the option to use any browser.
Again I don't see any monopoly here.
                        Windows has edge
                        Apple has safari
Android has chrome but somehow they are a monopoly.
                        Unfair and unjust

Just create pseudo independent company and sell browser to "them" keeping everything under control.

Android is one the few things Google does right. Who knows how another company would handle it.

HyperionBurn, 21 Nov 2024do they have the money to?Definitely not but and maybe not firefox. But legal pressure can force them to fragment or sell within a timed window.

I don't really think this is a great move. They should rather increase transparency in google. For example prohibit them from showing selective results, hiding certain domains, google even changed word meanings not too long ago on certain words in selected locations when the whole gender thing was at roar.

The search engine is capable, the only bad part is when Google starts making decisions for the user.

Not only web but tracking apps and deep backdoors into every digital service they provide.

I would like to use a crude example of Lightning port vs USB-C here. USB-C is universal but it's garbage when it comes to physical reliability. It is a horrible design, a port inside the plug. It is fragile and slightest touch disturbs the connection. I have owned 4 phones with type c now and every single one is unreliable. Lightning was slow but even the old iPhone 6 in my home always firmly connects to the charger 100% of the time while none of the type c do. I'll take reliability over unreliable speed everytime. USB C is bad and needs to be changed.

                                Absolute win for consumers.

Google have their bs about collecting data, all that but this is too much, whatever you say, the monopoly has work and innovation behind it that google has done, don't punish someone for working too good, better make else more capable that they can also seize the monopoly by working hard(recent case being OpenAI's chatgpt success and little threat to google's search business). Best thing to do in this situation will letting the market create its own trajectory by people making new innovations and products that are too good than google so that people shift to them, that's how the market's nature work. You(government in someway and us people) can support those people's new ideas and products. But punishing someone for doing something so good that it takes a big market share, will demotivate people doing and making good stuff and innovations, that I'm garranteeing you for sure. ( But yaa always check for any really unethical ways some business may find, like the unsaid data collection that Google does,etc...) .

Imagine if Firefox buys chrome and Android.
