Wow. This is super exciting!

I hope they'll be allowed to fab on both foreign (tsmc/samsung) and domestic (smic) nodes.

what are they going to call the division? Mi Silicon?

PureOS, 17 hours agoEvery competition is welcomed to break this two producer mo... moreI'd think their chip would be fabbed by either TSMC or Samsung. Unless they have to use SMIC like Huawei due to sanctions.

in house chip + harmony os, pretty sure ccp will force to users to use harmony in next few years, decade and we will see china self reliance and seperation from the west.

NeonHD, 17 hours agoDidn't they already make one a long time ago? I clearl... moreThat chip turned out to be a circuit protection/regulation chip for their super fast chargers, not the SoC that really powers the devices.

Every competition is welcomed to break this two producer monopoly ( TSMC and Samsung )

              nooo bad news

Didn't they already make one a long time ago? I clearly remember it was called the Surge S1.

I guess it'll be the Surge S2 then?

Well, atleast they've got some mid tier and budget phones to experiment in. Hopefully won't be a pixel tensor scenario.

Tensor moving to tsmc, apple in-house modems and even Exynos is improving. And looking at how huawei is pulling out 8 gen 2 numbers from sanctioned tech, things might be getting good.

More competiton, better products overall. MediaTek and Snapdragon might have to tighten up.

More competition in the market is always good for us consumers... Hope they deliver something good.

Funny story UNISOC will launch their offering too.

                      As far I read:
Xiaomi goes 3nm and has 8+ Gen 1 performance tier and will use UNISOC 5G chip

UNISOC goes 4nm and has SD 888 performance tier

Well this is certainly going to be interesting to watch if this turns out to be true.
