To the people that says 7” phone are too big…that’s a personal issue lol. I’m tired of smaller phones because I have bigger hands and smaller phones make my hands cramped(yes even the S series and non Pro iPhones and etc.)

Now if someone can make a foldable phone with a 7” cover screen with 18:9 ratio and when you open it up, it’s a 9” 1:1 screen

The size of smartphones today is simply ridiculous. Unless you have gigantic hands like those of a monster, I doubt you will have no problems handling a 7.0" brick. The 6.1" iPhone 15 is the best-selling smartphone in 2024. Nobody wants bricks.

Flip phones are not practical. In folded state they are twice as thick as a regular non-flip phone. People are not buying them not because they are too small or too big, but just because they are not practical for general public and still remain very niche devices.

Foldable sales are down because they're not practically giving the newer model for free with a trade-in like they used to. Last year the Flip 5 was $90, this year the Flip6 is $350.
Increasing the size of the Flip 7 isn't the answer.
I'd love it if they made it smaller.

Samsung needs to realise, panel sizes are fine, they need to reduce the price to win market share. Launch cheaper variants with lower chipsets.

My man, a 300 lbs powerlifter can lift all the stones in the world, but he cannot open a pickle jar due to tennis elbow.

What GSM did not point out is Samsung took the lead for overall foldable sales in Q3 and will remain the top seller of foldables for the foreseeable future until Apple comes along. Personally, I'm not really one to get worked up over quarterly sales, but Samsung haters in this community prematurely made a big deal about Q1 and Q2 sales from Honor and Motorola. They don't seem to understand it takes 4 quarters to win this game. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What this report also mentions is the Z Fold 6 is on pace to outsell the Z Fold 5. I expected the ZF6 to have a turnaround because this is the first year Samsung has offered direct discounts and they've recently increased trade-in values, but I'm still a bit surprised considering the slow start. Overall sales are still short of the ZF4. It's obvious Samsung needs to drop the price. That won't happen next year because this reported change in the aspect ratio, which I'm not happy about, will likely push the Z7 to record sales.

This report also confirms the leaks some manufacturers will be stepping away from this form factor. It states ". . .we expect to see 32 different models shipping in 2025 vs. 41 in 2024."

walkman8, 03 Dec 2024They cannot, even if their lives depended on it, figure out... moreThe Flips are price competitive with the S+ series and the iPhone Pros. I actually see a decent number of people in public with Flips, and even a handful of Folds. In my market at least, the only thing holding back adoption of Flip style foldables is Apple's market dominance. And I'm sure that will stop being an issue once Apple has the "courage" to "invent" a folding phone.

On the other hand Fold style foldables still have the problem that they don't really have a great use case yet. Sure, you can use it like a tablet, but it's cheaper (and a better experience) to just buy a high end phone and separate tablet for when you need a larger screen.

WhoCaresTM, 03 Dec 2024Yeah well... I'll probably switch to the regular S25 ... moreBigger is better and it's time for 7"+ phones. My coworker had the 1st one. Not sure if you consider that "public". The first time I saw someone in the streets of NY was 2023. The only other one I saw was recently at a visit to the Doctor. The receptionist had a Z5.

On the other hand, I've seen about 12 book folds in the wild. That doesn't include the one I saw in the vampire movie Abigail, the Z6 I saw aliyawill(a twitch streamer) using, they guy at the google store when I checked out the Pixel 9 Fold or the ones I saw when I ran into 4-5 people at the experience store when the Z6 came out. I'm honestly starting to believe I'm a book fold magnet, but the point is the Z Flip outsells books folds by 2-3 devices and I've barely seen any compared to the book folds.
