Especially for the fact that it is very expensive to replace those components. Even the simple fold smartphones display cost a lot of money to replace them. No repair shop would even accept repairs for the display of the foldable phones.
Worst part? Majority of android app developers don't optimized their apps to run a specific smartphone.

          Personally, I do not consider a tri-fold innovation anymore than I consider the SE innovation. The Mate Xs was innovation. The XT is just a Xs with a 2nd hinge and a extra panel. It's evolution, not revolution. But, it is the 1st commercial tri-fold. Huawei took Samsung's concept and made it real. They get credit for that.

          What interests me is this new timeline suggests Samsung's tri-fold(which technically is a bi-fold) could be the 1st or 2nd Samsung device with a Solid State battery. That corresonds with the news of their folding battery. Flexibility is another advantage SSBs have over the silicon-carbon batteries Vivo, Oppo, Xiaomi, Honor and Huawei are using.

            Large Foldables needs a few things to be considered before release.
            1. Stronger frame and more durable body and screens.
            2. More processing power than a smartphone. Otherwise people would just use laptops or tables.
            3. A few variants, with differenr processors and screen types.

I am pretty sure the first light bulb invented by Thomas Edison wouldn't have lasted more than a couple hours... doesn't mean it was a gimmick and we should have stuck with oil lamps.

              First few tries for any technology will always be far from perfect. It doesn't mean it is a gimmick... it means it will only be adopted by 'innovators' and 'early adopters' (see 5 stages of technological adoption) who are ready to live with the shortcomings as a price for the novelty. Once the technology matures, it starts getting adopted by 'early majority'.

                As per Collins dictionary and Dictionary.com, trifold or triple means having/ consisting of three parts.

                As per Oxford dictionary, trifold is "Designating an object designed to be able to be folded in thirds; spec. (of a door, window, etc.) consisting of three hinged sections, panels, or leaves, so as to be able to fold up when closed."

                So basically trifold means three hinged sections, not three hinges.

                I can understand why you got confused, it is easy to get mistaken by the terminology. What I can't understand, is why you got so worked up about it. :)

                      The concept of Samsung's tri-fold smartphone looks promising, but its actual performance and user experience will only be clear once it's launched. Innovations like this often sound great on paper, but real-world application will reveal whether it lives up to the expectations.

                          Wow, so they're going straight past 3 screens and two folds? It will have 4 screen and 3 folds? That must be what you mean, since tri-fold implies 3 folds.

                          You wouldn't be ridiculous enough to just repeat manufacturer marketing claims unchecked would you? Calling something tri-fold when it's clearly a bi-fold? Bi-fold of course meaning 2 folds, which is exactly what the 3 screen huawei device has?

                          Words have meaning. You, journalists, should be fact checking the lies of manufacturers. You wouldn't just accept them saying a phone has 24Gb of RAM if it only has 16. You wouldn't accept a phone being called "The iPhone $800 Version" it it was being sold for $1200. Manufacturers can't just use whatever word they like to describe a product and then defend it as "marketing".

                          STOP. CALLING. BI-FOLD. PHONES. TRI-FOLD.
