As the market saturates, and everything in the high end is the same in terms of bezelless punchhole displays with the same high performance chip and cameras (diminishing returns), brands will expand their lineup to cover niches that are not as competitive and thus provide easy sales. That includes these smaller flagship phones. And in the future, I‘m hopeful a third category of 5.5“ to 6“ phones will emerge. When the companies will inevitably run out of ideas, and some people find the idea of such a sized phone interesting and it makes them want to get a new one just because of a somewhat more compact size (me included), and that makes those people willing to buy a new phone who are not interested in the slightly better cameras or chips, what else will the brands do. They will have to cater to niches to get the last remaining crumbs of the market, to scrape the bottom of the barrel as the saying goes.

Anonymous, 07 Dec 2024Why do people want small phones? Are they tiny people?I don't know if you're laughing at smol phone lovers but I sure find it funny to see people try to use big phones while standing in the subway/buses or their other hand carrying/holding on to something else.

They are sensitive to environmental temperatures, so if the phone doesn't have a good cooling system (the case with Apple iPhones until 7, iPads, HTC One series, Sony Xperias before the XZ2 etc), they become too hot to the touch that they feel like frying pans under average use.

The other minor issue is the weight, as the OnePlus Nord 4 features a plastic (polymer resin, still the same thing) inner frame/chassis to bring the weight down to 200g. If it was completely metal, they'd have to compromise on battery capacity and certain other aspects that are mostly dealbreakers, in order to bring the weight down.

And since I'm still using a 7 year old phone with a glossy aluminium unibody (Nokia 8), it has surprisingly held up well. No form of screen or body protection, and doesn't heat up because of the cooling chamber inside. The accuracy of the physical fingerprint scanner will never be replaced by in-display scanners, with frequent hits and misses. And the physical size itself is my excuse to refuse to replace my phone.

LcdD2, 07 Dec 2024one more "compact" without 3.5mm audio output. What's the matter? Just stick with Xperia 10s, Xperia 5s, and pre-2024 Zenfones, bro.

If vivo released X200 pro mini globally it would cause a great sell for them, that's a solid compact with everything.

Anonymous, 07 Dec 2024Why do people want small phones? Are they tiny people?Works by one hand, less weight so less dropping, pocket friendly, less screen means more screen on time, fast charging time due to small battery and the most important aspect which is Less Screen = Less Distraction 👌

                            6.3 inches huh?

Well that should be small enough if I ever think about using a compact phone.

But I'm sure that some people want the phone to be smaller, maybe like 6.1 inch or 6.0 inch or smaller than that.Well you do you I guess 🤷
