Local electronic stores are the cheapest by far, around 100 euro less than apple store.
HOWEVER that was not what my original comment was about...

Population isn’t everything. Population does not equal market size.

Anonymous, 08 Jan 2025You cant connect smuggled device to 4G network in indonesia... moreNo matter the security in Indonesia is very weak and cheap. As a foreigner, you can ask for the services of a local person who understands how to register IMEI on a foreign phone, They will go Go to the IMEI registration service office for a price of Rp800k-1 million per cellphone. And you can also go to a fake IMEI repairman for cheaper, by attaching the IMEI from the iPhone 11

kek, 08 Jan 2025I'm pretty sure Indonesia has more to lose from this l... more- Unfortunately, no, as most Indonesians use Android phones, although some use older iPhone models.
- As of now iPhones are a status symbol and have been categorized as luxury goods/items with additional taxes and import duties; thus, resellers are selling Apple products at a premium (including a thick margin).
- These resellers are well-connected with past government officials and are benefiting Apple's lack of official presence in the country. It would be beneficial for customers to have more accessible and services through an official presence.
- From Apple's standpoint:
a. This might not be in their best interest the unknown demand for Apple products (not just iPhones) in Indonesia.
b. Global demand has also waned in the face of an inflationary economy with high living costs everywhere. It is a high-risk move to make a major, capital-intensive manufacturing investment.
c. Lastly, the manufacturer is Foxconn, not Apple. Apple and Foxconn chose Vietnam and India due to their closer proximity to China (and land-based logistics). The high cost of logistics in Indonesia might not be in Foxconn's best interest. Additionally, minimum wages and the low capability and capacity of the resources are a major risk.
- From the Indonesian government's standpoint, they need additional revenue to fund their expansionary government programs. Although it is good to stand their ground let's hope that if the investment is fruitful, it's the country that benefits the most, not just some groups/government executives.

Anonymous, 08 Jan 2025Smuggling seems really lucrative right nowYou cant connect smuggled device to 4G network in indonesia
As it is needs registered IMEI to connect to 4G network
Samsung, xiaomi, oppo and vivo already has a factory. Even transsion group (itel, infinix) has factory, but apple doesnt have a single apple store in indonesia.
Irony of a multi billion dollar company
