Indonesia won’t lift iPhone 16 ban unless Apple starts manufacturing iPhone components locally

09 January 2025
Apple previously committed to a $1 billion investment, but that was still insufficient for the Indonesian authorities.

Sounds indeed like my gov, greedy and only thinking about themself.

I am from Indonesia btw

    This is beautiful ❤️ 🤩
Govt., Politics is dirty but i love standing on your words. Manufacture locally or nothing.
Some African countries like Nigeria with crooked leaders would have pocketed the money.

PS. I'm Nigerian so F you in advance if you think you coming after me!

      That's a tall order Indonesia 😶😅

Darth Caesium, 08 Jan 2025Massive Indonesia L Even as someone who dislikes Apple a... moreApple never have good intention to make official proper Apple Store in Indonesia, thus avoiding tax and only premade base config from reseller with skyrocket price, bad for consumer. This is applicable not only for iPhone but also entire Apple product stack. No BTO / custom config possible.

OTOH, on the Indonesia gov side...with countless record of bribery and corruption, I don't hope so much lol. The best mean for getting Apple device without middleman is probably going vacation to Singapore and purchase at the Jewel Apple Store.

Indonesian gov and Apple, name the duo of mutually destructive affair.

          Massive Indonesia L

Even as someone who dislikes Apple and what they stand for, the Indonesian government is so greedy and deluded that they're potentially going to drive away $1 billion worth of investment just to get the last extra mile. Shame on you, the Indonesian government.

Anonymous, 08 Jan 2025So all the other brands, Xiaomi, Samsung, Motorola, Oppo an... moreall samsung phone is assembled in indonesia factory, as well as few apps for samsung indonesia consumer only, such as samsung gift, s-lime

xiaomi have partnering assembling company in batam,
oppo have factory in tangerang since 2022, and based news i read vivo also have factory in tangerang since 2016

            motorola almost unheard in here

you see most smartphone marketed in indonesia legally & not imported have factory albeit its just "assembling factory"

it wont be hard for apple to open similar one in here
but i am guessing, the sales for apple products in indonesia probably not high enough to interest apple, as indonesian market shares is in low-mid, while people that have money probably just import the phones or just go oversea and buy directly

beside, other than iphones, other apple products such as macbook etc. still allowed

Anonymous, 08 Jan 2025So all the other brands, Xiaomi, Samsung, Motorola, Oppo an... moreyes, all of them

So all the other brands, Xiaomi, Samsung, Motorola, Oppo and all others do produce their devices in Indonesia then?

                Serious question btw

Good on them for actually keeping the pressure up. Apple did not keep their initial promise, now they need to genuinely do something to make up for it
