Apparently there's now an option to run the display in full 4k, this likely means sony would be bringing at least a higher resolution screen to the VII this year, since there's no point in developing this feature only for the 1 V. A good guess says FHD+ was a one-time event because Sony switched suppliers.

In the Android world updates happen late and just because OEMs are forced to. They are buggy and never fixed and render the devices unusable after a couple if years .
