potato4k, 13 Jan 2025You got it. Many talked big about wanting a compact flags... moreI think the reason that the small Zenfones flopped is because people don't want a small phone. Not because everyone wants the biggest phone possible, but because a comfortable form factor is considered a nice-to-have compared to things like smooth software and good battery life.

If Asus wants to make the compact Zenfone mainstream, it has to be a good phone first and a small phone second. That's why the iPhone SE and Pixel 4a succeeded. And that might mean increasing the size to 6.1 inches to save on R&D costs. Fine by me. That's still pretty small.

potato4k, 13 Jan 2025Nah. The Zenfone 10 was only a hype train ridden by the you... moreI've held both in my hands and the Z10 is smaller than the S24. Feels more comfortable too as it doesn't have the razor sharp frame of the S24. However the camera bump is big and the phone is thick.

The 11 Ultra wasn't exactly an awful phone, but the screen was subpar and it didn't have a whole lot of software support. It was hard to justify solely for the headphone port (which is really good to have), when even OnePlus was offering better screens and more support for similar money (at least at launch, it since came down).

I'm really concerned that this one will be basically the same story as the last one, and that would be a real shame. Probably won't stop it selling, but Asus really needs to a) call up Samsung and get a QHD+ screen, this does not need 185hz and b) bring 5 OS updates.

I remember the Zenfone 9 had discoloration issues. Idk if that's the case with the Z10

Again just Rog with no fugly leds , less cooling and buttons

real, 13 Jan 2025I don't believe that's the case. At least in this... moreYou got it.
Many talked big about wanting a compact flagship. But in reality, they only want cheaper phones. The noise didn't translate to reality.

Apple tried, and they left. Asus tried, and left. The Chinese didn't even bother. The only one left is Samsung with its relatively compact regular Galaxy S, and even then they are rumored to drop it by next year.

So clearly these companies, who main goal is to make money, didn't see the sales that would work with their cost. And it is sad, because I like compact phones as well. But I'm not in denial either. I'm just glad Apple and Samsung are still making a relatively compact phone (regular iPhone and regular Galaxy S) for now.

These obscure random brands need to step up their game with updates
You get, what, 2 software updates at most if you're lucky
                It's ain't 2017 anymore
Everyone has been offering 4 software updates for years with an additional year or 2 for security updates and now we're even moving to 7 updates
Nobody is gonna spend $1000 on a phone to become unsupported in a year smh

real, 13 Jan 2025I don't believe that's the case. At least in this... moreSmall phones are all I've purchased for the last decade.
Most recently the base model S23.

KevinPhoenix, 13 Jan 2025And here I was hoping they'd learn from the poor sales... moreThey did learn. That's why they cut the regular Zenfone line. Making phones cost money, and it's clear that Asus didn't see a proper return.

It is far less expensive to continue manufacturing ROG phone compatibles than to produce small devices on a separate line with large quantities of custom-made products. Both ASUS and Apple would still be making small devices today if enthusiasts for small devices had purchased 10 of each.

KevinPhoenix, 13 Jan 2025And here I was hoping they'd learn from the poor sales... moreexactly, they can't make a good BIG flagship so the least they can do is make a competent compact one.

All I need is that SD card slot 🙏

KevinPhoenix, 13 Jan 2025And here I was hoping they'd learn from the poor sales... moreI don't believe that's the case. At least in this country, the Zenfone 11 sold rather well, even more so than the smaller predecessors. The reality is that unless consumers speak with their wallet by purchasing smaller phones, companies will stop making them because it's simply not profitable.

KevinPhoenix, 13 Jan 2025And here I was hoping they'd learn from the poor sales... moreAllegedly the zenfone 11 ultra sold well to businesses so it might be the case that they'll use that to justify keeping the phone big.

Plus most people who want Asus to return to the small form factor just like watching videos on it, majority of them won't follow through and buy one which isn't good for asus

And here I was hoping they'd learn from the poor sales of the Zenfone 11 and return to a small form factor.

Look at Apple. Apple iPhone mini sales are actually pretty good number wise compared to even most Android sales numbers, but even Apple saw that it's not sustainable.

It's unfortunate, as I am also a compact phone fan. But I cannot deny the reality of the market. I'm just grateful that Samsung is still doing the regular Galaxy S.

So far, the only real thing is the China only Vivo X200 Pro mini, and not only it's still bigger than the standard Galaxy S, it's China only, meaning Vivo is not confident that they would get any sales globally.

That's the reality of the market.
If you think the Zenfone 11 Ultra was a flop, then the Zenfone 10 was apparently even worse to the point that Asus discontinued the lineup.

What about the rumors of an Oppo Find X8 Mini or OnePlus 13 Mini? Even at around 6.0"-6.3", at around the size of the S24, I still think that the Zenfone lineup would've found succes.

Just look at the Zenfone 11 Ultra, it was a huge flop. Bigger than any other Zenfone model till that point. And the 11 Ultra abandoned the compact form factor. Coincidence? I don't think so
