IMX363, 18 Jan 2025This is an S24 refresh. I don't mind the same design b... moreI believe Samsung is not doing enough for a good upgrade from S24 to S25, so I wouldn't even consider trading my S24. How do we tell Samsung what kind of upgrade to bring, because they are treating their loyal customers like we are stupid. I also believe if they start losing long term loyal customers, maybe their eyes would open. They have to look at us, and not their bottom line. In reality, WE are Samsungs bottom line! 😡😠

This is an S24 refresh. I don't mind the same design because the S24 design is very nice. But the camera sensors are the same, still starting at 128GB, no new battery technology.
Samsung is coasting. At least Europe gets the Snapdragon this time, and that's only cause they could not get Exynos up to the quality; again, because they are coasting.

PartTimePhoner, 17 Jan 2025While it is correct that this is a boring upgrade overall, ... moreIts not just that there's something wrong with it
But its also about seeing big improvements that might gives an incentive for upgrade.. for me, cam experience is crucial cuz I completely relay on my phone for it. and the S23U isn't particularly gr8 at low light
but that's just me, and I usually don't upgrade in less than 3-4 years cycle
Also, I carry 2 phones most of the time, and the 2nd (older) one has the sim cards and can withstand moderate use, so upgrading wouldn't be as hard as having one phone

Akarius, 17 Jan 2025OK, but I have to ask: do you really believe new technologi... moreits much simpler, the small battery size means anyone looking for a fone regardless if they want to upgrade from last gen, is going to factor it.
no consumer cares outside 1 its reliable and 2 its better and bigger while not heavier is indeed better.
having a bigger battery means setting to 80% is practically and the penalty is negated by the increase in density. Samsung being this slow is behind and so will get out raced by their competitors. you can say the same thing, if u lag behind your competitiors will take the sales. lol

Akarius, 17 Jan 2025"Why would I want it to stop when it hits 80%? If I... moreIt's not really about the cycle count so much but, if you want to preserve the overall health of your phone battery through it's lifespan, especially if you plan to keep it for longer than a year, it's important to be mindful of your charging habits. Charging a battery beyond 80% to 100% always can significantly wear it out faster than keeping it at 80% and below.
Think of it like this: when you lift your normal set of weights at the gym and then you start lifting heavier weights your body is not use to your muscles work harder, which can cause more wear and tear. Similarly, when you fill a water balloon half full and then fill it up to the point of bursting, the pressure inside increases dramatically stressing it out. A battery experiences a similar stress when it's constantly charged to 100% instead of staying at a more comfortable 80%.
This principle applies not only to phones but also to electric vehicles (EVs), many of which have settings to limit charging to 80% to preserve battery health.

I'd say that's fine that we as customers don't know what new technology we'd exactly want, since that would really be the job of the brands to innovate by themselves, like they used to, even Samsung used to.

DarlingYext, 17 Jan 2025"keeping slow cool charge isnt bad for batteries, and ... more"Why would I want it to stop when it hits 80%? If I'd do that, then I would have to charge my phone more often, thus putting it through more charge cycles, which is definitely not good."
When I drive my Hyundai Ioniq hybrid, I also see that the battery management works like this: when charging is needed, it charges from 33% to 66%, then immediately starts discharging back to 33%, then charging again.
I was curious so started reading why it is so, and it turns out that if you do this, you actually increase the amount charge/discharge cycles that the battery can last, reducing loss of battery capacity.
That said, it was specifically for the traction battery in a car, I don't know if the same rule applies to phone batteries. Just thought I'll leave it here as some of these real life things seem to be counterintuitive so who knows.

DarlingYext, 17 Jan 2025Then why launch it if there is nothing that changed?Let me answer in one go :)
"And, so what? If it's not new, just an improvement then it's not needed? Improvements are exactly what's needed with new generations, otherwise why even launch a new one."
No, I agree, improving in charging speed is desirable and I would love for Samsung to hover around 120W charging power. Why they refuse it for so long is a mystery to me.
I only stated that because the people I talk about seem to expect new technology with every new phone generation, yet they have no idea what kind of technology they even want.
"I do, if other brands could do it, why can't the supposed biggest one?"
I guess that's a question of who owned the R&D process and now holds rights to the technology, and whether the big companies are keen on buying it. I don't have these details and I would bet the answer is in them.
"Then why launch it if there is nothing that changed?'
One word. Consumption. That's it ;-)

Anonymous, 16 Jan 2025is there any prove overnight slow charging is the worst for... more"keeping slow cool charge isnt bad for batteries, and today phones also have battery protection like stopping charge as battery hit 80%.. "
Why would I want it to stop when it hits 80%? If I'd do that, then I would have to charge my phone more often, thus putting it through more charge cycles, which is definitely not good. Slow charging is also not necessarily cool, and isn't cooler than fast charging, these chargers have many safety protections in themselves as well, so if anything they will heat up, so your phone won't have it.
"its up to u what u want to believe, but for others u should include real tested proved sources"
I simply believe in what I've already experienced, and slow charging is not good for batteries, fast charging is.

Cake, 17 Jan 2025All the improvements that we have come to seen on other pho... moreOK, but I have to ask: do you really believe new technologies like SiCa batteries happen with every generation of new phone? Do you even realize for how long LiIon batteries are on the market? I still remember having Siemens S6 in the 2000s with its NiMH battery and LiIon was a revolution to replace it.
Just what people like you expect to see improved every year? Do you realize how much time the whole R&D cycle takes? Because you seem to have a very childish view that inventing new technologies is something that happens somewhere between morning shower and lunch. It doesn't. SiCa batteries - if Chinese companies put them in their products today - were at least for a few good years in R&D, lots of testing, reiterations, testing again etc. until the product is ready to hit the market, and that usually involves gigantic money so these companies are not eager to release a dud that will sink them.
So let me ask: what new technology do you think can be invented in below one year? New battery material? You wish. What new screen technologies do you want? Higher resolution? What, is 4k not enough? If you want 4k today, what do you want next year, 8k? And what a year after that? 16k? Where does it stop? You want a screen that's bright like a sun and not only uses little energy, but perhaps produces it instead of consuming?
So many people moan there's nothing new about phones, and yet when you ask any of them what it is that they want, what kind of new technology they perceive should be added to the equation, the answers are "faster charging". Faster charging is not a new technology, its improvement on an existing one. No answer. They don't know what they want, but luckily I do.
They just want to keep complaining.
