Hot diggity damn, that's my dream phone right there. It would be even cooler to see a regular slab phone being this thin. Yeah I've got a fetish for slim phones.

Now that is slim! I still would rather take 1cm "thick" phone with big battery and no camera bump.

And later on you put a huge fat bumper or even case to make a regular brick :)

lol, this will kill Z Fold7, with Dead sales before its even released. Sammy just been sitting on its laurel for far too long that all competitors in the Foldables surpassed them already. It is such a disgrace their management had had let this happen after 4 years of virtually the same hardware Since Fold3, I had been waiting for meaningful improvements that never arrive. Finally getting a foldable that has a large battery, wide outside screen and good camera. Goodbye Sammy you can keep your Fold7, RIP.

It's a neat feat of engineering but I feel like that'd be awkward and uncomfortable to actually use.

Anonymous, 20 Jan 2025Huawei and Oppo are setting the benchmark for everyone to f... moreWhen you've been behind in a race, at some point you have to exert more energy to gain some ground and you're in a better position to take risks. On the other hand, the leader just needs to hold the line until they feel threatened. If that happens, they will apply the same energy that got them the lead.
I love what Oppo is doing. I look forward to seeing the Open 2 in person, but they are not a threat in NA or even China. You can't simply have an Open Pop-Up event in NYC and Cali for a weekend and expect sales to explode. They need a bigger stage and consistent presence if they want more sales. Until then, they have to continue big hardware changes just to keep from falling further behind.
How much thinner can foldables go? I believe we are reaching the limit. When all foldables are basically 9-10mm what do you have to differentiate yourself? That's where brand recognition makes a difference.

We want shorter phones, not thinner. I am very exhausted of tons of 6,3"+ phones, why not to make really compact flagship (thicker), but with 3 lenses, under 6" ?? Price really dont mind. Hope, that many of users will pay for something this a lot of money.

Anonymous, 20 Jan 2025I hope it comes with 7 OS upgrades and AI-features as good ... moreYou know what,
They should also not provide the charger in the box just like Samsung.
They should give 5000 mAh battery just like Samsung instead of ~6000 mAh.
They should also max out the fast charging at 25 or 45W just like Samsung.
Oh wait, even better they should just call it Galaxy Z Fold 6.5 or Galaxy Z Fold 7.
Why even bother releasing under their own cheap name. Samsung is supreme.
P.S. to others, I am not an Oppo fan, have never used an Oppo branded device (Realme and OnePlus excluded) and I am not a Samsung hater either. I like One UI a lot.

meanwhile Samsung insults us by giving us the fold, then takes the proverbial p*ss by releasing a thinner fold 6 for the chinese market, meanwhile these companies are absolutely embarrassing Samsung with their tech, if oly they had a foothold in the western markets more to give some competition.

Foldables being thin is not impressive
When you can cram the whole interior inside a normal phone with that thickness, then i'd be impressed and no the S25 Slim and 17 Air aren't impressing

This is such a nice tribute to Oppo R5 from 10 years ago, which is the thinnest consumer product the company has yet produced and by far the second thinnest slate-type smartphone in the world to date. I assume that it *will* have thermal throttling issues despite using the binned version of SD 8 Elite, but it's nice that we will now have a foldable tablet that is more portable than most slate smartphones in the market as an option.

It doesn't sound like most users would notice the difference between 8 &7 cores:
"What does this mean for users? You probably wouldn’t be able to tell the difference for most day-to-day tasks. It might affect apps or users who require maxed-out performance, but the difference is probably negligible for the average smartphone user."
