Anonymous, 23 Jan 2025Interest is not fading. Demand is fading. It's not the... moreI'm not saying foldables are a fad that is going away. Foldables aren't doing anything we haven't seen in the past 15+ years, which is more screen in a portable package.
I also agree sales will pick up. We haven't seen Samsung's best hardware. They've yet to make any significant changes to the aspect ratio, camera, battery or price. Any 2 or 3 of those will grow sales.
My point is how do you go from niche to mainstream? You mention people will be returning to upgrade. That's the problem. Foldables need new people. It's been 6 years and sales have yet to break 20 million. Mainstream has got to be 40 million minimum, right? Maybe more. How do you get that exponential spike? Apple's involvement is not about hardware we haven't seen before. It's about raising the awareness of foldables to appeal to a broader base. I don't believe any of the current players can do that.

Interesting Samsung isnt even on the list. Hahaha
Anyway it does not matter less crease or not foldables after 8 years are still nothing than useless gimmick with a very fragile main screen which scratches at mohs pick 2-3 ad is completely oblitterated by mohs pick 4 or more.
Whats worse you cant use proper screen protector just another thin foil which is dead with mohs 3 pick.

As someone who keeps his phone for at least 4 years durability (UTG cracking & delamination) are still my biggest concerns and what holds me off from buying one. Not necessarily the price. Z Fold can be had for ~1000€ so it's not that much more expensive than Ultra phones

Anonymous, 22 Jan 2025It is clear you don't know anything about android os. ... moreYou are very wrong. Harmony OS is not based on AOSP but it's proprietary OS developed by Huawei. Android OS and AOSP are based on a monolithic kernel while Harmony OS is based on micro kernel. It's only that in the beginning Huawei added the AOSP layer to support phones which were realized with Android to allow a smoother transition to their proprietary HarmonyOS next. By the way, AOSP is a striped down version Linux OS.

Luke, 22 Jan 2025interesting. So Xiaomi isn't very popular even there..... moreXiaomi is a company that appeals to the price and performance conscious people. They are seen as cheap and lack the prestige of Huawei. But xiaomi products are good and appeal to the masses. People that insult xiaomi are seen as snobbish and out of touch.

PepperPot, 22 Jan 2025"IDC pointed out that despite phones becoming thinner ... moreInterest is not fading. Demand is fading. It's not the same.
Sales are probably decreasing, not because of a lack of interest, but because a big portion of consumers who were interested in foldables already purchased one, thus shrinking the pool of consumers who are likely to purchase a foldable in the near term, in the current conditions. But the conditions will likely evolve. Technology will get better; foldable phones will get thinner; gradually keep getting cheaper; consumers will gradually understand the benefits and switch.
If anything, foldable phones are getting closer to be as thin as smartphones, as cheap as smartphones, (almost) as durable as smartphones. So why would you not want to have a larger screen??

Anonymous, 22 Jan 2025Apple, Samsung, and Huawei all being sold in planet earth.
... moreAnd where does he pretend the world is only China? Can't you even read correctly what he wrote?
Although I must also say that even If Huawei was officially sold in Korea or USA for example, then It would still lose by a gigantic margin in comparison not just because of the home turf advantage, but because of the missing Google services and no access to latest SoC.
And this is also the reason Huawei is not selling well in other markets, but that's not really their fault.
Without sanctions there were globally number 3 If I remember correctly, not sure If Honor was included but probably yes.

Anonymous, 22 Jan 2025Are Huawei phones sold in the US or South Korea? No.
Are... moreApple, Samsung, and Huawei all being sold in planet earth.
But you're going to pretend the world is only China.
In the end you can only make stupid argument to justify the poor worldwide sales of Huawei.

Apple don't have any star anymore
All Apple product now is just a minor adjustment of Jobs idea
I believe the era of iPhone already over
And now we're entering the China era... Huawei vs. Xiaomi vs. Vivo

"IDC pointed out that despite phones becoming thinner and lighter and companies coming up with bigger batteries and less visible creases, customers are not as keen on purchasing a foldable."
I think that is obvious. Samsung sold the most foldables in 2024 and they are behind in hardware. Foldables need a lifeline. They need Apple to get involved.

BTW,
The reason Q4 shipment of foldable devices were down
Is because ALL the phone released during Q4 were a non-foldable flagship
