telestarcomgsm, 24 Jan 2025This is why dual sim phones are so uncommon in USA and carr... moreGenerally speaking, consumers have a wider choice of smartphones and tablets in all the least developed countries compared to the US.
Only a consumers class action suit on national scale can break insane monopoly granted to major carriers. I read last year on GSM Arena that even US variant of the One Plus 12 doesn't work properly with Verizon network, only AT&T and T-Mobile subscribers can use it on their networks without hassle...Incredible for a developed nation !!!

Rbx, 22 Jan 2025This is due to excessive commercial monopoly granted to maj... moreThis is why dual sim phones are so uncommon in USA and carriers really really want you to buy their crap bloatware loaded and mediocre phones. So much e waste too, a carrier locked phone that isn't iPhone or Samsung flagship will really have no place on the used/after market and will tend to get sent to a electronics wastebin. If you don't care for iPhone, the US has the worst mobile market in the world aside from least developed countries with limited supply chain. Even Nigeria, Pakistan, or Kenya have way better mobile market selection for the consumer than USA by 3 universes. US mobile market treat consumer like complete idiot without agency

Oh no! This is a very sad day.
4G is probably twice as carcinogenic as 2G. I wish I still had 2G or 3G in my phone.
I'm so sick of all this non-stop 4G and 5G radiations everywhere. And soon we will be force fed with 6G and 7G OMG!
Can a faraday cage protect me from all these dangerous microwave radiations?
By nature the human body is not made to withstand all these dangerous radiations and there could be mutations in the flesh and bones. OMG
Where's the tin foil hat when you need one?

And for it coups take them years before getting newer networks or "paving" there.

Jack Kracker IV, 23 Jan 2025An end of an era and the first generation digital wireless ... moreActually, T-Mobile shut down 3G years ago because that spectrum could be easily refarmed to LTE/NR. See what I wrote above about why 2G persisted for longer.

An end of an era and the first generation digital wireless network technology to start sunseting.
1G is analog not digital.
3G is still available, 4G is mainstream, 5G is in mass adpotion.

Anonymous, 23 Jan 2025"More reliable than 4G in UK.. I wish they keep 2/3G i... moreT-Mobile specifically was able to run 2G on a 1.4MHz wide guard band they would not have been able to otherwise use, so it wasn't a waste for them. Additionally, even well after phones started supporting LTE, many IOT devices being shipped were still 2G or 2G/3G only for a number of years. That wasn't an issue at the time since they didn't need much bandwidth, but it became a serious issue once AT&T in particular started to shut off their 2G/3G networks. Many manufacturers from car makers to home alarm systems ended up shipping out replacement SIM cards so their products could continue working for years on T-Mobile's 2G network after AT&T shut off their legacy networks.

Letting 2G & 3G alive is the same as letting a dirt road alive and not upgrading it to highway.
Most 2G & 3G were using a PRIME frequency that can really improve 4G & 5G network.

That because you don't know that 2G/3G have a "bug" / "flaw" that make it insecure.
Just by letting you're phone able to access the non-existance 2G/3G, will open to the "fake" network that can use it.
The drop of 2G/3G in future phone chipset is about "WHEN"

I agree with you.
The US, as a more conservative in cellular tech, might hang on to 4G very long.
But in other place, example, China, might make 5G as the new defacto standard faster than the US.

JensenC, 23 Jan 2025But it isn't though... It is for the many places that 4G let alone 5G don't reach.
They want to remove 2G then at the very least 4G needs to meet or exceed the coverage of 2G.
