Letting 2G & 3G alive is the same as letting a dirt road alive and not upgrading it to highway.
Most 2G & 3G were using a PRIME frequency that can really improve 4G & 5G network.

That because you don't know that 2G/3G have a "bug" / "flaw" that make it insecure.
Just by letting you're phone able to access the non-existance 2G/3G, will open to the "fake" network that can use it.
The drop of 2G/3G in future phone chipset is about "WHEN"

I agree with you.
The US, as a more conservative in cellular tech, might hang on to 4G very long.
But in other place, example, China, might make 5G as the new defacto standard faster than the US.

JensenC, 5 hours agoBut it isn't though... It is for the many places that 4G let alone 5G don't reach.
They want to remove 2G then at the very least 4G needs to meet or exceed the coverage of 2G.

Stu, 9 hours agoGoodbye 2G.
Will not miss you because you used give 64kbps... more2G limit is 384 k/bit, not 64
64 is just a limitation providers give after your high speed volume ends.
They will just give the same 64 k/bit limit to 5G then.

Goodbye 2G.
Will not miss you because you used give 64kbps speed which could not process an email properly nowadays.

That's so absurd.
Many places signal would drop to 3G or more so 2G where 4G and 5G just don't have the coverage.
This is going backwards

a lot of somewhat modern phones don't support VoLTE, rip to many cheapo smartphones released until 2019-2020. oh and custom ROMs on Samsung without the buggy open IMS.

At least 2G lasted about 34 years here in the States. While 3G came out a decade later and was already shut down half a decade ago.
I can imagine 4G being the new 2G and last at least 30 years and not the 20 years that 3G lasted. I don't believe it will go away with 5G and 6G already out. 4G becomes the minimum standard for mobile data speeds.

Anonymous, 19 hours agoThe whole whitelisting practice should be banned. Any phone... moreThis is due to excessive commercial monopoly granted to major US carriers since the 90's, United States is maybe the sole remaining country in the world where a carrier can impose to its subscriber base handsets and tablets models which can be used on its network.
Take a look at Global variants of Chinese phones and even Samsung phones from other markets: they might not work properly with US sim cards or (worse) banned even they are technically compatible with most of their 4G/5G bands....Absolute nonsense.
Major Canadian carriers like Rogers & Bell are way less restrictive in comparison.
