Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra vs Galaxy S24 Ultra camera shootout

Does Samsung's new Ultra beat its popular predecessor?

will samsung degrade my s24u camera just to make s25u better?

At least s23u to 24u upgrade had few major changes like flat screen, anti reflective coating and better battery life.

I'm quite impressed with the Galaxy S25 results. Samsung appears to actually be improving the image processing with each new generation unlike Apple who are keeping their photo results pretty consistent between the latest generations.

I have to disagree about the S24 Ultra providing better 30x zoom photos, the leaves on the plant look over-sharpened and waxy. The S25 Ultra shot looks much more natural.

I've made some comparisons side-by-side on my Odyssey G9 OLED. For once the aspect ration actually comes into play, aswell as the pretty accurate colors! Speaking of colors, the S25 Ultra shows better colors, they seem more true to tone and the overtuned red seems to be fixed, something that really bothered me on my S23 Ultra. Consistency across cameras also seems good, which was pretty bad on the S23 Ultra. Macro is especially good, it looks lifeless on the S24 Ultra aswell as less detailed. UItrawide may need some software tweaks but I see the potential. Overall, I'm pleased, the differences aren't big, but they're welcome, subtle improvements even on the lenses both share. Also, these are results of a suboptimal location and with pre-release software, probably, so they may very well be improved upon release.

People love to be negative about this phone release and I get it. Samsung could have done much more but didn't. So far, it still seems good, even if it is not much. This phone isn't for those posers upgrading every year for no real reason, it's for those coming from older phones, where subtle improvements and consistency are better than experiments that may fail, there's a reason they first test that stuff on the S25 Edge. Don't like this? Wait until the S26 series, where I expect much bigger overall changes.

This is basically the S22 Ultra (Gen 3), with no significant changes since 2022, only slight design tweaks and SoC updates.

How embarrassing that they're being beaten by other Android OEMs and even the iPhone when it comes to camera quality and battery life. xD

Why would you post the photos in a layout of this style? It makes doing a side-by-side difficult.

To me, the S25 Ultra photos do look better overall. Especially the 3x ones and the macro. No massive change but that's to be expected, as long as processing speed is improved and color rendering is improved over my S23 Ultra, I am happy

UWA on S24U looks even better in some cases and no difference in other. What a surprise. iPhone 16 UWA dejavu.

The UW cam's shots look like a slight processing tweak instead of a genuine change. Still weird to see a back and forth between the old and new phone instead of a complete upgrade. These guys can't even recycle correctly.

And even if the S25 Ultra is better, is it because the S25 Ultra is good or would it be because the S24 Ultra was bad/mediocre?

I said it once I'll say it again.
It was so stupid to swap the already great ultrawide camera for a great one yet different sensor...
They should have instead upgraded that disgusting 10mp 3x zoom to a better sensor!

What a surprise, the same hardware delivering 99% the same results. Even the new ultra wide doesn't have a discernable difference unless you put both photos side to side and zoom in, something no one will actually do

All in all, you're getting the same (if not worse) photo performance like in 2024. Very nice, Samsung! That's why we pay the top prices for your products.
Silly Chinese OEMs actually give new sensors each year, what a waste of resources that is!
