Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge hands-on

22 January 2025
Thin is in.

Sort by:

They're calling it an Edge because of the nostalgia factor, and thinking it with a "marketeer's mind", they can justify it by saying the screen goes edge to edge because of the very thin bezels.

End of story.

DarlingYext, 23 Jan 2025"Comfort: A lighter phone is less tiring to hold for e... moreAt the end of the day. I'll fit enough. I do the gym but I do have bad wrists. I can game for periods of time and then I get sore if I have to play anything like Tekken or whatever else, that requires crazy fast inputs. As for the phone. No issues typically. Occasionally I get sore but only from the same factors, hitting keys extremely fast over a period of hours. Holding a phone is nothing, that includes a case add on. My mother has arthritis and again, there is literally zero complaints.

If you never use one you always beg to disagree. Thin phone is nice to have, plus if it's foldable I can put it in my pocket.
The big one is for gaming, the thin one is really nice to carry for work/banking usage phone.

What's the point of a phone that's likely not gonna last you a day on day 1? It's only gonna get worse.

If you were smart you‘d be able to accept other arguments and adjust your opinion based on that, and see nuances instead of an absolute opinion of „thick phone good, thin phone bad“. But you are not smart. You are DarlingYext on GSMArena. And that’s why you will never change.

Who's hands get tired just because they are holding a 200g device? Come on, human beings aren't that weak.

"Portability: They’re easier to carry in your pocket or bag, making them more convenient for daily use."

                    Yeah, easier to lose them.

"Aesthetics: Sleek and thin designs often look more modern and appealing, contributing to a premium feel."

No, just no. Thin and lightweight is never premium.

"Usability: One-handed use becomes easier with lighter phones, especially for people with smaller hands."

Compact phones make sense, thin ones do not.

The former usage of Edge was wrong.
They called phones with curved sides "Edge", when in fact when screen is curved IT DOES NOT HAVE EDGES.

But even here, it's just dumb to use Edge, as it's like any other phone with flat screen and normal edges.

It should have been slim or thin or something more clear.

Thinner and lighter phones come with several advantages, including:
                            1. Portability: They’re easier to carry in your pocket or bag, making them more convenient for daily use.
                            2. Comfort: A lighter phone is less tiring to hold for extended periods, such as during long calls or gaming sessions.
                            3. Aesthetics: Sleek and thin designs often look more modern and appealing, contributing to a premium feel.
                            4. Usability: One-handed use becomes easier with lighter phones, especially for people with smaller hands.
                            5. Reduced Bulk: They fit more easily into tighter spaces, like slim pockets or small purses.
                            6. Charging and Heat Efficiency: Lighter and thinner phones often come with improved engineering, which can include optimized batteries and heat dissipation.
                            7. Practical for Accessories: They are less likely to feel heavy even with additional accessories like cases or attachments.
                            8. Eco-Friendly Design: Lighter phones use fewer materials, potentially reducing the environmental footprint during manufacturing and shipping.

However, thinner phones sometimes come with trade-offs like smaller batteries or less robust durability, so it’s about finding a balance that suits your preferences.

Well, let me hear about those advantages. Wanna tell me some? I know the disadvantages about it, so let's trade intormation.

Easier to break due to slimness, and easier to lose due to lightness. Harder to fit good parts into the phone, especially a decent sized battery and good enough camera sensors, and it's harder to keep the phone cool, when using it heavily.

All that slimness just for people to slap a case on the phone. I've never met a person in real life who has specified that they purchased a phone because it is slim.

Samsung used to use "Edge" name for curved screen variants. does it stand for slim profile now? actually, samsung have been releasing the slimmest flagships on the market for many years. so, thickness was never an issue. I don't understand going in a slimmer profile rather than packing a bigger battery and camera sensors in the same thickness.

But if you knew that a phone design is made of more than a camera bump (which you obviously don’t because you don’t understand what advantages a thinner and lighter phone even brings), then you‘d recognize this is a thinner S25+ with a Z Fold 6 camera bump with one less camera and the flash placed in that bump instead.
