    Tata can smell Apple's $$$$$$$

Tata Electronics said on Friday it has bought a 60% stake in Taiwanese contract manufacturer Pegatron's India unit that operates an iPhone plant, beefing up the Tata group firm's position as an Apple supplier in a fast growing market. The stake acquisition in Pegatron Technology India is for Apple Inc's iPhone plant near the southern city of Chennai, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters. The company will now have two plants in the southern state of Tamil Nadu and one in neighbouring Karnataka, which it took over from Taiwan's Wistron last year.Apple is increasingly looking to diversify its supply chain beyond China amid geopolitical tensions between Beijing and Washington.

Hugo, 25 Jan 2025Will still remain expensive for the Indian consumer. You are right.
I think tax is high here or maybe those companies are keeping those wage discounts as their own profits.
In india per hour wage rate is way low than us and china.
So, companies are saving lots of dollars, that's for sure.

Great, now we are going to have glue and adhesive tape shortage. Phone assembling is nothing fancy, just some screwdrivers, glue and tape. Biggest scam jobs ever only to get PLI.

Anonymous, 25 Jan 2025All the Taiwanese firms are leaving India. The thing is we are very different atmosphere from Taiwan. I think they have difficulty of managing workforce. Also can't forget about timezone issue. Also now I strongly believing they want divert their resources in different yet lucrative location i.e. USA thanks to President Trumps inspired initiative from ' Make in India ' to 'Make in America' so it's very obvious why selling their assembly factories.

I heard that Tata letting it's own subsidiary (Jaguar) gone woke. Standing there doing nothing would get you broke automatically.

"The acquisition of the controlling stake in Pegatron Technology India has been cleared by the Competition Commission of India"

That is such an oxymoron statement because in India there is no such thing as anti-monopoly policy. As long as you have connections within the ruling party, you can do pretty much anything.
