Tata buys Pegatron's iPhone making plant in India

Tata Electronics has acquired a 60% stake in Pegatron's iPhone manufacturing plant in India. Back in March last year, Tata also bought Wistron's operations in India, so it's clearly serious about becoming a big player in electronics manufacturing in India.
The acquisition of the controlling stake in Pegatron Technology India has been cleared by the Competition Commission of India. Following the acquisition, Pegatron India will undergo a rebranding to align with the new ownership structure.

Tata has already been operating an iPhone assembly plant in Karnataka, acquired via the Wistron acquisition last year, and now it's becoming an even bigger player in Apple's supply chain. Tata is also in the process of building another iPhone assembly facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu.
All of this underlines India's growing importance as a hub for electronics manufacturing.
