This news makes me happy, excited, and angry all at the same time.
Happy that an open source model could perform better than most models.
Excited for all the future opportunities and applications with this open source model.
And angry towards all the "haters" and detractors.
All of this is unfortuantely tied into the political and economic global sphere, which drives "jealous" actors such as the US to place an embargo on such a development.
Like the saying goes, no good deed goes unpunished.

I doubt we will see the end of other AI services anytime soon. Just because a Chinese startup is successful NOW doesn't mean it will continue to do so in the future.
Also, what about the privacy and security concerns? That's one of the big reasons China was blocked by the U.S. to begin with.
