I am hoping that the Fold 7 has had the fault fixed that has constantly plagued my Fold 6 from day 1.,.. nearly 7 weeks old and off to repair again. Front screen keeps freezing, I would of thought I would be offered a new phone or refund but does not seem to be how Samsung NZ operates or it could just be OneNZ

After using the OnePlus 13 for a week now, I wish I never bought the Fold 6 with the old snapdragon. The new Snapdragon Elite is truly the best! I should have waited and went with the Fold 7.

If you want cheap foldable then buy used. 6 months after release you can already get it for half the price.

So the S25 just came out and you already start talking about the Z fold 7... Stop it for a moment, this is getting ridiculous GsmArena.

              are they gonna boom ?

I will probably upgrade to Fold7 from my S24 Ultra. Cashback will be nice and I don't mind Exynos processor if it's high-end enough. I look forward to my first foldable.

They may give better deals on trade-ins periodically and for the first time this year we saw direct discounts, but you will never see a permanent drop in price from Samsung. You're talking about 3rd party sellers.

"The bad news is that, well, see above. The price cuts we've all been expecting to see with foldable smartphones once they've become more mainstream still aren't happening."

That's what we are hoping/expecting, but foldables are nowhere near mainstream so we can't expect to see price cuts yet if it is based on that premise. Samsung sold the most foldables in 2024 and that was 2 million less than what they sold in 2023 and 4 million less than 2022.

Please Samsung, make a slot for the S-Pen, and make the screen and internal electronics more able to handle the repeat folding and unfolding. My otherwise superb Fold4, and Fold5 that replaced it, both failed a year after purchase with similar issues. On Fold4, WiFi etc circuit failed, and screen began to show crack in the centre. So they swapped for a Fold5. It's Bluetooth circuit began to fail, & cracks in the centre made the screen action hotspots without me touching it, like launching apps or typing letters. So it went back and I got an Ultra 23 that has so far been flawless. But I do miss being able to open it out for big screen goodness, so am using my iPad mini for that.

You'd be daft to pay the full price for one of these phones: wait a few months and the price drops massively. Your own article is showing that 6 months after release the UK price for the Flip 6 is almost exactly half the original launch price. So if you want a "flagship" folder for the price of a "mid-range" one, just don't buy it at launch.

Price isn’t budging in Samsung foldables because they are flagship hardware.
What we would need is a mid range offering. Look at Moto RAZR 2024. It’s just $600. But the fact remains that the demand is not high.

Another factor is Google is still shy towards optimizing Android for foldables. So OEMs have to do many things themselves, meaning more costly for them.

The price cut comes to the FE model, no? They'll likely stick to the pricing on the expensive models, and just add a few "flagship" features every year. You know, the way mobile pricing has always worked. A future "cheap" models will likely have a different model name, like A to whichever letter they decide to use instead. N, maybe?

it'd be funny if the Z Fold7 is worse than the Special Edition, apart from the chip upgrade ofc.
