Weekly poll results: the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra may be in trouble, vanilla S25 could be a hit

02 February 2025
The vanilla and Ultra models have been close in terms of popularity (measured by the number of units shipped), but the Ultra used to have the upper hand.

Samsung got it all wrong. It's not that S25 will be a hit, it's basically that Ultra model is not the flagship we used to see in the past years.

It's beyond my understanding why Samsung try to copy every bad aspect of Apple (design, lack of features, same specs every year etc.) but they forget to add a competitor to the Pro model where the real Apple innovation is.

If you need a relatively compact form factor (like the Pro) with all the Ultra specs in, you need to go back to Note 10 series, when Pro models didn't even exist.

S25 is nowhere near the 16 Pro unfortunately.. and S25U is too similar to Pro Max.. No surprise they lose market share.

Can you explain why, or try to remember what Moto G you had? I'm also curious why you had to switch to a Moto G from the Poco F1?

And that left a very good impression me. I wanted to change to Huawei at P30 Pro time but did not had the money when it came out and yeah what should i say then banned later .... My phone history was: Sagem, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Nokia N95, iPhone 4G, Samsung J5 2016 + 2017, Samsung S7, Pocofone F1, Motorola G something and at last until now S23U. About these before iPhone we dont need to talk. So about Motorola i have to say its my worst Android experience the Xiaomi UI was nice to use but some times buggy, with modded GCam you had even very good night pics compared to their own Camera App but end of the day i like Samsung the most. But i would also never buy A or whatever Series from Samsung its Ultra or nothing 🤷🏻‍♂️ But to be honest i will buy in a few days the Xiaomi 12t Pro as my playing Phone 😅 Will delete what i can delete and deactivate and only play games via WiFi with it. 5000mh and 120W is ok it means 20 min gaming break and for the Rest and as a main Phone i will stay on S23U 🤷🏻‍♂️ Atm its for me not worth to upgrade to any brand so i will wait and look what happens 2026 or 2027 ✌️

Why would a certain ui be "for the trash" just because you don't like it? My favourite duo of software skins is vivo's Origin OS and Motorola's UI, because one is feature rich while the other is super clean. Have you ever tried either of these? I'm basing my opinion on One UI and EMUI on my own experiences with them.

"Huawei delivered good Software to the EU .."

Okay, but for me for example, Huawei's EMUI was never a pleasing software, yet I never thought they weren't legit brands, I always liked their hardware too. Samsung's One UI isn't for me either, and I don't even like their hardware but I wouldn't call them unlegit.

So what's wrong with Motorola for example? What about vivo or Oppo flagship phones that don't get rebranded and don't have different versions for different regions, what's wrong with those?

I know vivo sells their X200 Pro with a smaller battery in Austria and Hungary, but that's only due to regulations, still it sucks, but what about their other devices?

There is no feature the 16 pro has even up-ed the s23 on yet alone the 25. The 25 ultra out performed the that beloved A18 gpu but iMedia and apple PR suppresses those headlines so that don't become one. What is so innovative about the 16 pro? The AI that samsung had already implemented in the phones? The AI that is still ot ready after the phone has been released for months?

For me I am thinking that Samsung is hoping people switch from other brands to s25 ultra. They know that people with s22,s23,s24 ultra there is no point in switching as they are already in the Samsung ecosystem.

I am currently using a pixel 6 and will upgrade to s25 ultra. This is what they are hoping for.

Ofc people won't want the new Ultra when they got rid of the design that was the biggest standout point they had going for it, being unique.
I was also disappointed when I saw how much it looked like an iphone, and will most likely just get an S24 Ultra cuz that will be enough for at least 4-5 years anyway...

vik457, 02 Feb 2025No, it isn't, too little upgrades.I looked at detail comparisons between both.

Reviewers said the S25U has a better camera overall, not just the Ultrawide because it has been upgraded( I couldn’t care because I don’t use ultrawide cameras) The rest of the camera hardware is same though..
Is it because of the new ISP of 8 Elite or is it just because the S25 Ultra is on One Ui 7 whereas the S24 Ultra is on One Ui 6?

Also those reviewers said that the speakers and display on the S25U is better but GSMARENA says that they’re the same.

Finally I don’t give a care about AI but I really want to experience One Ui

                      What are your thoughts?

Sounds petty, but I do remember when Samsung fans here when I was just joined this site forum 8 years ago were being very hostile towards Sony Xperia in 2016-2019 because Sony were doing their own things for Xperia, especially the bezel-less trend that made Xperia being hated deeply by everyone in tech community, forced to dip in generic taste, dropped Xperia sales and fandoms', and anything that related to Xperia, when Galaxy was at its peak of innovation, fandom, and appreciation, like everything.

Fast forward today, now Samsung fans are being humiliated being this downfall of Samsung Galaxy because they stopped doing what they used to know back then about innovation, rest on their laurels, copying Apple, removing features, their sales dropped, price increased, marketshare being eaten, lost like most of their signature, while Sony Xperia these days pretty much focused on what they able to do as part of niche engineering project of Sony and Alpha, enjoy being the final defender of old-school features that almost no other brands do anymore, and while their sales never return to peak to Z3 days and not perfect as seen with the continuous optical telephoto zoom sensor of 1 VI, at least they served decently to core community and tried to be different, as time of writing, unlike with Samsung. It's like karma hit Samsung fans these days that who did a smear campaign against Xperia, although not as prominent as they did to HTC. Time flies, huh?

I can afford but I am asking because $300 is budget smartphone money or money that can be invested elsewhere.

Bobi7x7 , 02 Feb 2025Why should it be not realistic ? All phones have done exact... moreBecause I've seen enough reviews of the same phones in the last month that give different results, depending on who tests them. Last night I even watched one where the 16 Pro Max beat several flagships by nearly 2 hours, including the 1+ 13 and S25U, and in your video it died before 1+ 13. Including a few reviews where one of the phones was with a SIM card... Or a review where the S25U lasted for about 9 hours. So I only trust people who actually use it in real life, not YouTubers who are biased by who pays them.
The real question you need to ask yourself is why a phone with a price tag of 500 euros more has similar performance.
For the tests to make sense, for me it should be tested like this: From 100 to 0 percent battery only at maximum load, only when browsing the internet, only when using the camera, etc. Otherwise, mixed testing is very questionable to me.

DarlingYext, 02 Feb 2025What a sad case. Most of the votes on all 3 phones went to ... moreThats because some people who doesnt wants S Ultra, prefer to buy S25/S25+ instead and vice versa, thats how statistic works.

It's also correct to say that about 68,9% of all poll participant wants "either" S25/S25+/S25 Ultra, 29,3% of poll participant consider buy either of the phone.

Leaving only 1.8% of all poll participant who purely doesnt want any of S25 series and also not considering at all to buy it.

Where does this 68,9% come from? Thats from sum percentage of people who prefer either of S25 Ultra (25,1%)+ S25 Plus (16,3%) + S25 (27,5%) = 68,9% of people that wants either of S25 series.
