My Son opted for iPhone 15 base model and we share OneDrive 6 accounts 1 TB each amongst our family for $75 a Year (6 TB). No need to buy an expensive 1 TB or 2 TB iPhones any more! You can easily save $600 minimum.

Regarding the outrageous price hike for storage upgrade, the other users from Apple forums out there (including myself) share the exact same frustrations. There's no hiding it, the price for storage upgrade is beyond logical. Right now, I just buy the 256GB for my big sized apps and games, then give the rest to iCloud to be backep up periodically.

There could be even newer standard in development that is faster, but phone makers are purposely not keeping up & remove then instead on their flagships & slowly on midrangers so they can force consumers to buy higher storage phones @ markup prices.

Let it go. Slowness from sd cards is... moreI wonder what their excuse is gonna be when microSD Express launches this year with the Switch 2. That is like 5 times faster than regular microSD cards. And if any phones will adopt it. It's gonna be a royal mess of excuses.
On topic, from the article, it seems like the difference between a 128GB (lol) and 256GB iPhone is 140-160€.... Dudes and avid Apple fans, I am sorry, but that is the price of a very fast 2TB nvme m.2 drive. Or a cheapo 4TB on sale. Brand new. Let that sink in. If you are gonna charge that much, at least make the base 256GB and only 1 option to upgrade to 1TB. Or 2TB. It's 2025, this is ridiculous.
And none of this even matters, because Apple has apparently finally reached the ceiling of iPhone price. That is the reason people are not willing to pay for more storage. The phone itself costs as much as a second-hand car. That iPhone 4SE or whatever it was called, better be good and cheap-ish, because next year they are gonna see even less people paying if prices keep going up.

I can toss my phone right now in a shredder, login to a new iPhone and every single setting, picture, text message, app will be on the new device and I would never be able to tell anything happened. Its worth the few extra bucks per year and I don't even need to offload data to it because my phone is low, its just from a convenience standpoint!

Make iPhone 20 with 20 terabytes. Partition it and only make 256GB available for the basic version. Encrypt the rest of the storage. Those who pays more can get more storage with a software update or a decryption key...

Imo, it should be 2$ for 100 GB, 4$ or 5$ for 400-500 GB, and then the rest of the options can be the same. 50 GB for the cheapest is now too little honestly and there really needs to be an option between 200 GB and 2 TB

Apple probably want this. That's why they charge so much more for storage. Now when you run out of storage you'll pay for an icloud subscription and over time spend more than you would on a simple storage upgrade.

Apps on it were slower, but it was so insignificant, it didnt even do anything to the system to slow it down

first of all, $100 for storage upgrade is kinda not worth it to begin with
secondly, remember when iPhones were selling like hot cakes upon release? I think it was iPhone 13 series launch, but I'm not sure. Anyhow, people were rushing to buy whatever pro model was available in stock. Many who didn't need a lot of storage had bought the more expensive 512GB and 1TB models because the other, lower storage models went out-of-stock. So if you look at the data during that time, you'll see that all the storage variants of all the pro iPhone models were sold well. But now, since iPhone 16 launch was underwhelming, the demand of iPhone 16 series is less. So the lower storage variants are not going out-of-stock (and thus, nobody is forced to buy the higher storage variants). TLDR : before, demand was higher than supply. But now, demand has lowered.
