Their financial reports lineup quite exactly with https://m.gsmarena.com/smartphone_market_grows_7_in_2024_apple_leads-news-66369.php

Apple sold 225.9 million iPhones in 2024 (down 1% from 2023), Samsung sold 222.9 million Galaxy smartphones (also down by 1%), Xiaomi sold 168.6 million units (growing 15%)

Fyi we're now in Apple's Q2 of 2025, they're financial reporting dies not follow calendar year, they follow a fiscal year. GSMArena staff needs to be clear to readers when paying such articles!!

Just now signed up for Apple ONE Subscription for family ($4 a month with 200 GB iCloud, AppleTV+, Apple Music etc..)! This is a killer!

--its not like none tried it before, every other phone vendor tried to emulate Apple like a premium brand and no other succeeded.

Moreover, because Apple is American, it profited a lot from USA's propagandistic depiction as the best country in the world.
--USA has been self proclaimed best country on the world claiming for more than 70 years and Nokia was the best phone maker till 2007/08. possibly not related to being the best country

Last but not least, Apple released the first full-fledged smartphone and because people stick to one brand for the most time of their life, they continue to buy iPhones, no matter how crappy they might be.
-- People has a tendency to not change much, but they also go where they find it comfortable. if Apple is that crappy, successful people wont buy them. Apple sells the biggest chunk of flagship devices.

Apple just lives from its artificially created reputation, there are many other companies out there offering even better products, but unfortunately they aren't called "Apple".
-- Reputation is just reputation. it can be good or bad. but it cant be natural or artificial. if other companies produce better products, they cant market well / those are not user friendly / the after sales service is not good / those cant be found or bought easily / not enough accessories in the market or something else. There is something lacking and that is why people dont buy those much.

Apple manages to make boatloads of money. Looking at everything Apple is holding its own and more on its product segments. I do think on the hardware side of things it does get harder to convince consumers on upgrades. The service sector does well because the majority of hardware Apple sells is iPhones and iPads. I suppose this is a good argument for Apple to continue moving MacOS to a more Apple Store platform. Obviously services are a constant revenue stream.

please dont bring up that smart people vs dumb debate. a lot of smart people (talking about real ones, not those living in basement and only job is to surf net whole day) also use apple and they are quite happy and probably would buy apple devices again.

a nice way to look at the real world scenario, not just tech world. being in the middle of the conservative vs liberal agendas, i personally find part of both of em brings good and vice-versa. however, people spends so much behind unnecessary objects and keeps complaining how they dont get enough. upgrading phone every year is such that we dont need for most of us. right? still, a lot do it. some services are necessary, some are good to have while some ( >50%) are mostly unnecessary and those bring so big revenue for the firms.
we should look at the source of the problems. is it the "impulse"?

Apple Music I never subscribed except buying Apple Music Libraries but they all are gone not sure where (Apple supposed keep my purchases in my ID but not so), I subscribe to basic iCloud storage 50 GB. So, Apple services are getting them good money it seems. They have Apple News as well. There are quite a few bean counter subscriptions can fill the coffers for Apple with 2.5 billion iOS users! Not that much difficult! But iPhone going to be a dud in the coming years.

Apple TV+, Music and iCloud are things that I have heard about in commercials and news. But I have never heard other people talking about them. And now I read that Apple makes 26 billion dollars revenue with these three things. Damn, I never needed these services, I never thought of them being usefull or entertaining in any way. I watch films on Blu-ray, I listen to music from Youtube and I store my data on a hard drive. Let's say I am a bit old school although I am fairly young and the things I watch or listen to are of high quality and have a deeper meaning than the things on Apple TV or Music or whatever other service there is. I didn't know people paid so much money for brainrot.
And then they complain about their rent or their salary or politicians. They talk about this and that, about woke being good and conservative being bad, they protest, they shout around and in the end they are never satisfied and their pockets are empty because they care about problems that don't exist.

Can we take a moment to analyze this? The services revenue has risen and takes up a huge chunk of the total revenue now, that's INSANE! No wonder companies are going all in on games as a service/trying to make everything a service. Easy money.

What's even more surprising for me is the fact that Japan constitutes to 85% of the rest of the ASIA PACIFIC'S (excluding China) sales. THAT'S LUDICROUS. It's also crazy that despite being so much more expensive, Macs don't really outpace iPads by a huge margin, so ofc companies will focus on phones haha

And the wearables/accessories figures show WHY Apple ditched the headphone jack and other quality of life features, good for business.

Planned obsolescence doing its thing, you'll see that products which dont last long are the ones generating the most amount of revenue, it's not a coincidence. They're gonna keep milking their audience, keep learning how to milk from Samsung/teach others how to take advantage of customers in shadier ways and they're gonna keep reducing the lifespan of phones in practice, but they'll have long software support so that no one can argue in theory. You wont see any government banning production of Apple phones, money talks.

[deleted post]Again, the report indicates that other revenue streams such as services have grown sufficiently to be able to compensate for the dips in hardware sales. But I'm going to stop there as it’s obvious this is all just a bit over your head 🤷‍♂️
