The end result of the phone itself is so much worse, and shorter support is also obviously worse.
Not to mention that the X200 has a way better camera setup, both hardware and software is better, larger AF capable ultrawide, way larger zoom lens, and a periscope one at that. It also has significantly faster charging and even comes with the charger in some regions, whereas the Asus doesn't come with one anywhere.

Old tired cameras, two years of software support, no way to support yourself (locked bootloader, no proper sources), exorbitant price.
Why does Asus want to fail so hard and so bad?

Great specs. But I am not buying this look like midrange Redmi phones. Get back to us when you have improved Z9 and Z10.

DarlingYext, 03 Feb 2025The problem is that even the base X200 is a much better pho... moreNonsense. How could they sell it for that in Europe? The base x200 is poor for the price. No LTPO screen, no wireless raging, short focal fingerprint reader, very average speakers, lacking some basic camera software features (no HDR video of any kind for). Hardware wise I think a similar price is certainly justified (of course Vivo's imaging processing will be better but Vivo's hardware is basically the same for 3 generations which is really bad). The hardware cost on this is bound to be at least around the same as the x200 so why should it be so much cheaper? The only brand offering a lot cheaper prices than others in Europe is Nubia with the z70 ultra. If people want value in Europe they should go for that model. It's priced much cheaper than the likes of Vivo, Xiaomi, OPPO, Honor and Samsung which are all priced similarly for flagship series phones

As a current ZF10 user (the ZF10 was the last great ZF), never buying another Zenfone, the ZF11U was a mediocre flagship, this one is headed that way, too.

Specifications aside, look at the design. The back is curved, moving away from the current design of most phones, Iphon-ish like, including the Galaxy s25 Ultra

This phone looks hideous. Why they abandoned their much more popular compact Zenfone is beyond me. And knowing Asus, probably still only two years worth of updates.

The realistic price of this shouldn't be more than $600, especially because it's likely not going to see more than 2 years of OS updates, when everyone else gives at least 4 nowadays.

DarlingYext, 03 Feb 2025Headphone jack is a good feature, but it's one that do... moreThe name doesn't really matter. It's the pricing that determines the positioning relative to other phones. The name has no effect on the actual phone. In Europe it is priced at 1000 euro or less that would be ok and that was the pricing for the predecessor. This is not 'ultra pricing' from other brands. Look at Vivo and Xiaomi for example. They priced their standard models (Vivo x200 and Xiaomi 14) at 1000 euro for the base 12gb 256gb models in Europe. Samsung is a little cheaper than Vivo and Xiaomi in Europe with the S25 but still close to 1000 euro without the pre-order deals. So basically for Europe pricing of 1,000 euro or less would be in line with most other brands for the specs on offer. Realistically though I think Asus is mainly releasing this for it's home market of Taiwan where they have more brand appeal. Their main business is still motherboards, followed by laptops.
