The first "smartphone" with touchscreen was the LG prada that ran symbian os, aka dumb phone is what the hipsters call those phones today. The modern smartphone is way more than just a touchscreen device, you could call the nintendo switch a smartphone if you were to only look at that aspect. They created the modern browser experience (non mobile web pages) and the modern app store. That is why they are number one and continue to be, they have such a headstart on everyone else.

In the early 2000's the biggest screens were on PDA's.. I used windows mobile pda phones for nearly a decade before Android was even a thing.

                      People wanted that screen be from edge to edge like we have had pst 2-3 years.

                      And that is from the time when we had 4.7 inch screen phones that were very large at the time. Where they had bezel tob/bottom something 15mm and also a lot of bezel on the side of the screen

                      Also if the market dont have options then where do the brands get the info what people want ? Now everything is big and the only smaller phones are standard iPhone and Standard S class from Samsung. As there are no other phone that is smaller then these van be said are compact even tough they are not compact phones.

                      I dont know what happen to Samsung A4x series that was compact in size. A40 was 5.9inch screen and then A41 come with 6.1 inch screen and then A42 come with 6.6 inch and then they stop making A4x series. Maybe they stop making A4x series cause it got too big and people didnt see a point to get it

                      Sony also use to have Compact phone but these were also only flagship specs and price and still were popular.

                      It just sux that they dont make any compact size for budget to middle class to have an option in the market to make their statistics on what people actually want. There is no choice as of not to get mini tablets only

                            Let out it this way. If there are two phones, same spec and price, one has larger screen than the other, I guarantee you most people would get the larger screen one.

You can a OnePlus 12 for about 600 dolls rnas if the Oneplus 12 is the latest and greatest phone from Oneplus, and that's besides the fact that Oneplus phones are priced closer to the Samsung + models than the Ultras. So the Oneplus 12 has gone down from 800 dollars to 600 dollars. Reasonable after a year and after new phones have come out. The Samsung got a larger price cut where I live within September.

                                      So many nonsense comments here its incredible

                                      The numbers are mostly useless since they dont split between corporate and private sales.
                                      We can make an assumption that the average person buys cheap Samsung a lot but that is it

                                      Most sales are for coorporate where they prefer higher as possible price to play around with taxes and whatnot.

                                      Same with cars where like 90% of BMW, Mercedes, Audi...are coorporate bought and a 800€ montly rate cost the company like 120€

                                      There are people here who own their own companys and can tell you this (regulations are offcourse different everywhere so things differ from place to place)
