Missing good old times with Motorola Z force with shatter proof glass.
Best protection so far on any cellphone if we exclude Vertu and its shappire screens.

TechEnthusiast, 05 Feb 2025Literally every other phone scratches at the same level, so... more"Literally every other phone scratches at the same level, so I'm not sure how you can call it a downgrade."
Very easily. It's not a downgrade compared to a random ZTE, or vivo, or Xiaomi phone, it's a downgrade compared to its own predecessor obviously, which was more scratch resistant.
Why remove good features that were already present?
"The article also said that manufacturers always aim for a balance between shatter resistance and scratch resistance."
Scratch resistance makes more sense, it's glass anyways, so it will break easily, at least it should be scratch resistant.

I'm with the anti-drop gang on this one. My old galaxy S8, which i used for like 7 years, had many, but none that would be visible when you actually turn the screen on. It even had its fair share of drop marks on the body, but despite its double curve the screen glass never shattered, even though i had no case and no screen protector.

DarlingYext, 05 Feb 2025yaay more downgradesLiterally every other phone scratches at the same level, so I'm not sure how you can call it a downgrade. The article also said that manufacturers always aim for a balance between shatter resistance and scratch resistance. And maybe, just maybe, the issue with the S24 Ultra, where the display looked grainy, was because of this, and now they have fixed this thanks to this change.

"Our ultra-premium glass screen protector for the Samsung 25 Ultra just made a new friend: an idiot-proof installation tray. It’s designed to take your screen protector installations from "passable" to "perfect." Introducing: Prism 2.0."
The only way to protect your screen is with a layer of protection...
If you don't it scratches. Was the idiot-proof installation too much that is why your phone is has NO screen protector

Anonymous, 05 Feb 2025No wonder the s24 ultra has increased in price. Got lucky, picked up the 512 GB for $900 from the UAE without any trade in.

As most of screens. I bought 1 year old phone with some scratches, did some more scratches in 2 years (nothing heavy), now I got some plastic protection, since it's bended, it's better then glass I hear.
No wonder everyone wants flat screens now.
Anyway, most of time I apply protection right away after I buy a phone, so screen protection matters less to me.
Not to mention there is none in f9lds, so I wouldn't care much.

Honestly, I couldn't care less about the whole glass debate. Because it makes no difference to the customer.
Dropped my A50 on concrete, gravel and the like numerous times through my 6 years of use, and never used a screen protector. Sure, there are some scuffs on the screen, but you cannot see a single one when the display is lit.
Similarly, my dads A30 flew out his cars window and got run over by 2 cars. The screen did not even crack, but the power button broke and had to be replaced.
This is all Gorilla Glass 3 btw. But I have similar stories from my friends who are still rocking a Redmi Note 7 and a Redmi Note 8, both of which (iirc) have gg5 instead.
Meanwhile, a girl from my clinical rotation bought an S24 a few months ago, only to crack the screen within two weeks from a simple waist-height drop onto concrete.
Sure, this is anecdotal, and does not really prove much due to the small sample size. But it is an experience that many share.
