The company has not made a final decision on the switch though.

It was a mistake by Samsung's battery supplier, that sent Samsung batteries that didn't fit into the Note 7's body, which caused them to explode even after only a tiny bit of expansion which should be normal for batteries.

This shouldn't prevent Samsung to include larger batteries, or faster charging, it only does so because people believe due to the Note 7 that large batteries are dangerous and fast charging is also dangerous. Samsung is among the luckiest manufacturers out there, if this happened to any other brand (maybe excluding Apple) they would've been gone within a year after the incident, but Samsung just doesn't innovate because of this, it's safer like that they make people believe.

That along with heavy lawsuits class action lawsuits really crushed Samsung!! Its likely major sanctions v would be levied if such an issue occurred again. Forcing a babies crawl cautiousness pace by Samsung.

The major issue is with longevity ans charge cycle count here .. THATS what Samsung was waiting to be perfected and only the last 2mths did we see spwcific manufacturer OEMs in China make a statement of that!!

Let's call it an innovation and make it a selling point of s26 series.

-, 11 Feb 2025And suddenly, silicon-carbon batteries aren't a "... moreSilicon carbon batteries is not Chinese technology. It's a method of substituting the positive electrode. Substituting minerals in batteries is not exclusive to any person or country.

Samsung has been exploring this method as far back as 2015, I believe. In 2020 they developed a Silicon electrode they called SCN ("Silicon Carbon Nano-composite"). It was a development that addressed swelling because silicone expands at higher rate than graphite.

This development likely contributed to the commercialization of the silicon carbon batteries we see today. Similarly, Toyota's development in solid state batteries led many companies, including Samsung, to pursue that technology. Samsung recently confirmed they are commercializing SSBs for wearables in 2026.

We can certainly give Chinese manufacturers credit for commercializing this technology, but they didn't invent it. Also, Chinese mobile manufacturers have been playing catch up for years. They need to take risks to close the gap.
