11 February 2025
The company has not made a final decision on the switch though.

Why do I feel like that's going to be the only change apart from the usual chipset updgrade? Lol

DerLuke, 11 Feb 2025Idk why people keep calling these batteries with that name.... moreLol, You're right, they are still fundamentally Li-ion batteries, just a tweaked version. Nobody said it was a revolution, but it definitely is an evolution. It's like when phone manufacturers switched from LCD to OLED screens (which is generally considered an improved version of LCD, offering significantly better contrast ratios, deeper blacks, and more accurate colors due to its ability to individually light each pixel, making it a superior display technology in terms of picture quality). It was an improvement, but it wasn't like suddenly everyone had perfect displays. There were still variations in quality and some drawbacks. The same goes for these batteries.

DerLuke, 11 Feb 2025Idk why people keep calling these batteries with that name.... moreThere are obvious upgrades though. The capacity is at least 50% higher than their Li-Po equivalent (90-95% higher than Li-Ion batteries), and a lesser chance of swelling compared to the dated Li-Ion batteries and doesn't force restart the phone when the battery becomes 2-3 years old. The latter is yet to be observed in any Si/C phone in production since 2021.

Is this a new trend? Make buyers of current/upcoming phone models fomo by reporting about a future successor that will release one year from now?

              keep the laser autofocus
              bring Qi2 charging with magents
and maybe use dual cell battery like OnePlus to improve charging speed.
And some form of frame interpolation to make 120fps gaming possible will be nice, though I personally don't play many games.

                And Silicon-Carbon Charger not included.

Good luck charging it without OEM recommendations.

                  7000 mAh but 45W still
                  Typical Scamsung
                  No innovation

                    it's finally?

ofc Samsung is getting late to adopt Si/C battery on their next Galaxy flagship. atleast before Apple doing that for iPhone 17 or 18 or 19.

hopeful it won't be case, like Note 7 explosion a few years ago.

Store-bought raspberry fruit juice is made of almost the same ingredients as pear fruit juice with a tiny difference to swing the flavor one way or another (fun fact - pretty much no raspberry or pear in them), yet they have different names on the boxes, nothing new here.

S26U should being these following upgrades as well:

main camera: 35mm with 1" type sensor (LYT900) with variable aperture

ultrawide: 110° FoV with Samsung GN9 sensor and gimbal-like stabilization (useful for action mode video)

zoom camera 1: 85mm with Samsung GN9 sensor (ALoP, not periscope)

the 10x zoom camera and macro camera are cool but not necessary. Rather stuff like color spectrum sensor might help in taking better photos and videos.

Also for the front camera, I think they should use 2 cameras, with both
utilizing the IMX858 or at least Samsung JN5 sensor. One camera will be the "normal" 1x selfie camera and the other will be the "wide" 0.6x selfie camera (similar to the selfie camera of Asus Zenfone 12U). Autofocus should be present in both, obviously.

Lastly, Samsung's in-house custom ISP (I think they call it ProMotion or something?) should utilize the cutting edge 3nm node available in Samsung foundry. (I think Samsung's image sensors should also use that 3nm node, but I'm not very knowledgeable about it). I also think the custom ISP could be the solution to poor photo and video quality in 3rd party apps. If the ISP can take over most of the image processing, then 3rd party apps can benefit from it. As of now, most of the processing happens on the software side, which are not readily accessible to the 3rd party apps. But if the ISP does the heavy-lifting, then the 3rd party apps can simply rely on it - no further optimization is needed from the developer side. This may have other benefits too like - better video quality (can we finally get to iPhone level quality, please?), lower processing time and thus lower shutter delay, smoother lens switching during video, better exposure handling during video, reduced power consumption during video recording, etc.

I'm on the edge of my seat, eagerly waiting for that one anonymous commenter who always pokes fun at Chinese OEMs to jump in here. Will he finally own up and admit he was mistaken about Chinese companies being 'foolish' for embracing this technology? Or will he just conveniently overlook it and start showering praise on Samsung's vision? 😂

Idk why people keep calling these batteries with that name. They are the same LiIon batteries with just different anode.. yes, have benefits and an improvement, but in no way those are the holy Grail or such an innovation.. especially if not made with high quality...

Nice move in the right direction 👍🏻

Samsung rarely uses new image sensors. What a waste of innovation!
