They had variable a... moreYeah, now that you mention, the Samsung from today is nearly unrecognizable from the Samsung from few years back, and not in a good way. They've just gotten lazy now after building a solid foundation, because no matter what, people will still buy Samsung smartphones. So if the money is rolling in, why innovate? Only more competition might change that

              David 040882, 18 Feb 2025Innovation-wise, the Mate XT Ultimate here has brought more... moreeh, Samsung has a healthy track record. They had variable aperture in the S9, they had the S pens in the Note series phones which had amazing battery life and by the Note20 Ultra/the S22 Ultra they had basically the best styluses available, and that was INSIDE the phone, not to mention the S21 Ultra which came with dual telephotos that covered a HUGE range and was perhaps the best camera system around back then, the Mi 11 Ultra was nice but a singular 5x is not that great imo. There's also the iris scanner they tried out. Releasing a non-fingerprint scanner authentication system that was different yet still useful and releasing it WAY before Apple. The S10+ was i think the only flagship phone with an SD Card slot AND headphone jack that year. Then there's the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Fold2.

              And as you can see, even if they didn't exactly innovate, they were pulling themselves ahead of the competition and outdoing themselves in tangible yet unique ways. Oh and it's not like Samsung's hardware was far behind the competition either, apart from Huawei, Samsung was basically like the top dog. Like even if Huawei had better hardware, their processing was an acquired taste back then, and by the time Huawei caught up, Samsung had pushed farther ahead with the Note20 Ultra.

              The S21 Ultra did so well and pushed so far ahead that Samsung is just reusing that phone for 5 years now. The Z Fold2 was so amazing that they're still using that phone and just thinning it out slightly and removing the weight slightly each year.

              They innovated/refined their products till they had a solid consumer base and decided to screw em over later on with their positive past image. Just because they're the worst company out there rn doesn't mean they were bad before too.

                      Solid image quality!

                      You can spot some purple fringing on the main camera, but I'm sure they can be address with a software update.

                                Don't see any strong reason to buy one. Only buy if you want to keep it as a collection. Not for daily drives.
