potato4k, 20 Feb 2025Nah, iPhone 15 only has 6GB of RAM. With Apple now putting ... moreThey still far behind competitors. For $600 competitors have 512/16 GB. And iOS apps are much bigger than Android, so it needs more RAM.
And that's not all. For $600 competitors have triple high end camera, faster GPU, Wi-Fi 7, NFC, Bluetooth 5.4, Si/C battery, fast wireless charging, 120 Hz HDR10+ display, underdisplay figerprint scanner and more more more.
No wonder US corpos wants that import duties. They stuck for years without innovations, felt far behind and can't compete.

Leo, 19 Feb 2025would prefer to take Iphone 15 Base edition rather this,Nah, iPhone 15 only has 6GB of RAM. With Apple now putting 8GB RAM even on this 16e, we can see Apple discontinuing support or any new features very quickly for models with less RAM.

Dantmv, 19 Feb 2025Funny they chose this name and dropped SE, I think the S10 ... moreIt makes sense.
This phone use a better SoC and has Apple intelligence. The iPhone 15 doesn't have Apple intelligence. If Apple named this the SE, people would still think it's less capable than the iPhone 15. Thus the 16e makes sense. It's the "essential" of the iPhone 16, but it's clearly more capable than the iPhone 15.
I have a feeling Apple is going to transition the iPhone naming scheme, matching the iPad and Macbooks, especially with the rumored iPhone 17 Air. I can see next year, we will have 17e, 17, 17 Air, 17 Pro/Pro Max. Apple might keep the 16e at the base line, but no more older regular iPhones.

S24 FE is much better than this shit
Samsung cuts only:
-Bezels, it's uglier but I think that is barely an issue
-Cameras, and still with like 90% capacity of a regular S24
-Screen, the S24 is brighter, but still 1900 nits which is pretty good
-SoC, but only like 5% less performance
But apple...
-Design, here we go, notch and not even dynamic island (I dislike both anyways)
-Screen, 60hz screen in 2025??? And also 1200 nits instead of the 2000 nits of a regular iPhone 16
-Cameras, imagine saying that it's a "dual camera", lol, it's just a crop from the main sensor that any phone with good isp can do, also no ultrawide at that price is pathetic
Samsung nerfs the S24 FE like 10% compared to the regular S24
Apple nerfs the iPhone 16E like 30% compared to the regular iPhone 16
For 400-600$, the S24 FE absolutely destroys the new iPhone 16E (E means e-waste)

Now I got more questions. Is the #e going to be a staple variant moving forward? Will it also drop in price every year by $100 until it is discontinued after the 3rd generational refresh just like the rest?

£899 for 512GB? Way too expensive.I spent same money for Vivo x200 pro and it's not "budget" phone from Vivo.

The only thing that makes me kinda want to get one is for the nostalgic similar design with the iPhone 4, with near flat camera and simple white or black color.
But this is not a good move Apple. It doesn’t even have MagSafe, the ecosystem they’re trying to build? That’s just dumb. Extra binned SoC, lower grade display panel, untested (lower cost) modem, and they just couldn’t do it for $500? Now if they ended up with Samsung panel (as above was rumored to keep failing their QC), then it might explain the price.

One camera wouldn't be so bad if it uses the same camera as the iphone16 pro. That would have been a more important feature than having the A18 chip.

DarlingYext, 19 Feb 2025Bare minimum specs with a top tier SoC for the price of a t... moreI definitely agree that getting a used iPhone is a way better idea. Apple’s low spec + high end chip idea isn’t a bad concept, but the way they did it makes no sense. The whole point is to save on costs by reusing parts, but instead Apple made a completely new design. Something like an iPhone XR with an A16 or A18 and the new modem would’ve worked a lot better imo

Just my opinion, 19 Feb 2025does practically nothing; it's just too basic. Your Ap... moreto play devil's advocate he is kind of right since android is becoming more ioslike by the second. the only custom rom left is grapheneos thanks to play integrity and it's only for pixel phones (which I will never use until tensor can beat snapdragon). no one uses root anymore either. But I guess sideloading without jumping through hoops is the one advantage we still have

Yes it's very budget, NOT! It's simply can't compete at this price with any Android upper midranger that would run rings around it. And even for the Isheep of the world why would they buy it, given such a small price differentiation with newer models? To sum up its overpriced and not unique or interesting in any way. In other words DOA.

2 years ago, iPhone may be superior than Android.
But these days they make a half baked product, also:
crippled Apple Intelligence (literally crippled)
no increasing software support
having an Android midrange features
lack of official store in developing countries
Mediocre photo quality/features
chipset with lower benchmark score than Samsung flagship
faster decreasjng price aftersale
Just like what most Apple fans said in macforums, there is now less and less reasons to buy iPhone.
Some people might say Samsung sell best phone this year, but it is actually all the competitor (US and Chinese brand) that choose to sell mediocre phone compared to Samsung.
