Also, the current phone market is oligopolistic in nature, so it's of no surprise that companies are price makers and have more power than the consumers. The only way to change that (besides competent antitrust) is if enough consumers are willing to vote with their wallets.

There's no direction in the smartphone market today, and no brand is at least attempting to bring unusual designs, or at least promote repairability (except HMD and Fairphone) instead of greenwashing in a deaf tone while forcefully turning their own products obsolete. What's even worse is that there are corporate shills to defend those tone-deaf actions.

We do have 6s and 7, and when I was just setting up them again recently, I was amazed at how fast TouchID was. We also have various Android phones with side mounted scanners from various OEMs, and they're fine as well, but sometimes response time is jsut a bit slower.

I had to use a work iPhone with TouchID (6S if I am not mistaken) some years ago and I remember it sucking bass compared to the side mounted fingerprint sensor of the cheapo Xiaomi I used at the time as a personal phone.
