Anonymous, 20 Feb 2025Mark 7 is on the way.
Mark 8 probably.
Mark 9 ? Hard q... moreMark 7 = should be completely ***rebranded*** (whatever name = 7 years is too long for electronics)
- still a great smartphone (hoping tablets come back = I won't use iPads, laptops are too heavy)
Sony rebranded their home theatre making them less appealing by simplified specs @ no middle ground (most people don't know or look at specs = wasted money) ***today's economy*** post COVID
- last year they removed the PRO-series, and PRO-I (replaced with just a DATA transmitter for cameras) @ PRO-I was marketing for camera (not a upgrade for xperia pro = both transmitter then camera)
- removed — xperia — from USA market (still wanted)
- 10s are still wanted (economy version @ half price)
___
(Ecowaste distractions) purely political
eSims are wasted money
- I would buy a 2nd device (eSims making it easier to TARGET specific people = hacking, government, spying) ***regardless*** I don't want to rely on a single device
ALSO stronger screens (plastic waste = USA won't recycle= microplastics)
- greater durability = greater waste

USA — again ??? (messed up my devices @ no USA LAUNCH with — mark 6 — I buy every 2 years)
I'm a fan of the ***xperia 5*** now 1's are same size (slightly wider = if still using 19.5 ratio)
I'll only buy if a USA launch (despite increasing lack of 3rd-party cases = major CON)
Need a new smartphone (using 3 devices daily. buying every 2 years = Sony lasts 7+ years on battery health alone)

Yeah, their Vaio laptops were cool, but I couldn't get one then. The company still exists, but it's not Sony's company anymore. Sony was one of the few early developers for smartwatches along with Asus, but I believe both pulled out now.
They should get back into it since it's a lot easier to develop on them and they now have dedicated smartwatch processors.
Anyways, have a great day!

Anonymous, 20 Feb 2025If Sony wants to be competitive, it has to provides at leas... moreHey I agree with you about the the part about sony should compete.
But don't take corporations/giant companies lightly.
Remember Huawei. They didn't launch any new products for 4 years. They were basically wrapping up their business from various markets.
ZTE was and is almost going smoothly.
LG simply shut down their smartphone dipartment.
Samsung is still trying to produce semiconductor.
Honor is rivaling Huawei even though at separation it had small fund and only 5000 people.
Even Apple had it's crisis period (long ago)
IBM still produces prossesors and computers
AMD had it's crisis period.
There is a lot more examples. Sony is not limited to Playstation and smartphone. They have TV, cameras, headphones, umbrella, lenses, soundbar, robots, sensors, prossesors. The are even in space, education, finance, entertainment, anime, music, manga, games. They produce raw materials too. I don't know how many more industries they might be in.
Even if they face losses in every sector they can survive for a long time using the trust, revenue, assets they generated for decades and make a comeback.

Anonymous, 26 Feb 2025like how much? millions+ like samsung, xiaomi, oneplus, etc... moreHow much? Twice better :D I know that beacuse I know people from Sony group. Xperia is NOT available in Australia, Canada, USA, middle east, INDIA (!) so dont hope it sells couple of millions mister hat_er. In the USA, the use of iPhone is even forced in state institutions. For many companies, selling smartphones is a matter of being or not being so. Sony is making money from music, movies, semiconductors, games and PRO equipment and does not have to compete on this market. They makes smartphones for his fans.

If Xperia 1 VII had wide LineageOS (or similar) support, I'd buy it in a heart beat. Unfortunately it has spotty support (1 V), and Sony OS is what it is, with only a few years worth of support.
However the hardware side is amazing: no AI crap in photos, 3.5mm headphone jack, decent enough battery, now finally runs cool (since 1 VI), has sdcard slot.
Unfortunately the best model (16GB/512GB) is only sold in parts of Asia and is hard to get.

I agree! I respect the heck out of Sony for that, they allow nearly any phone to be used with their products.
But like that's the thing with software man, they can give you things and can take it away from you, which is why i always prefer hardware and what's available in the present, not promises for the future like fixing stuff with updates.
Have a nice day mr kawaii super baka

They slowly left each market and now they are barely in the phone market and they've abandoned some really good phone software over time.
The one thing I do like is that Sony's small ecosystem isn't locking you into it, unlike Samsung and Apple.
