23 February 2025
It's bigger and pricier than the iPhone SE, but it is also more capable.

Reminds me of an iPhone 5s Iwonder who would buy this? Seems like a qaste lf money

The XR benefited from a much more simple and straight forward iPhone line up though, and being a clear step up from it's predecessors

The 16e has the iPhone 15 to contend with, a iPhone that is sandwiched between the 16 range with a earlier generation number, beaten on some key spec points by its lower-cost sibling, and lacking Apple's current big buzz software feature set, namely 'Apple Intelligence.' and yet still ends up feeling like it is the better option 🤷‍♂️

€800 for 256gb variant (which is the base variant of every other Android flagship you can get for the price,so I'll use it for reference)
            When you can get:
Xiaomi 14t pro (3 awesome cameras ,120hz,120w charging)
            Galaxy s24+ (512gb,120hz)
            Oneplus 13 (3 great cameras .120hz, 6000mah ,100w charging,fastest mobile chip)
            Honor 200 pro (512gb storage, 120hz, 3 amazing cameras )
            Motorola edge 50 ultra(512gb storage ,120hz ,3 cameras ,fast charging )

Any of these modern looking phones will give you a much more superior experience than the 2015 like design iPhone 16e
So Why would someone pay €800 for this single camera, 60hz notched screen crap?

The 16e makes sense for a spiritual successor to the iPhone XR, but with a comparatively lighter weight for an Apple device.

Minu, 24 Feb 2025Let's not forget that this doesn't serve as a spi... moreThe successor didn't need to incorporate those features. LCD, 16:9 aspect ratio, and TouchID were not essential to the SE line; they were simply included due to the legacy designs being re-used, specifically from the 5S and 8 models.

The transition to OLED, FaceID, and a larger display size could have been marketed as significant upgrades for the SE series. This might have even justified a slight price increase, not as substantial as what we're seeing now, but a moderate increase could have been justified.

As it stands, the feature set being offered would have been a welcome upgrade for the SE line at a slightly higher price point. Instead, we are seeing a downgrade to the 16 line at nearly the same cost 🤷‍♂️

I'm upgrading my grandparents to this phone and my entire family of six that has the 15. The 16 has the dumb camera button and this is the first year we skipped the new iPhone launch to wait because of it. I wish this phone had an LCD, if it did it would have been absolutely perfect! Hopefully in September we get a new iPhone without a camera button.

DaFink, 24 Feb 2025The main issue with this is the pricing. It’s way too high ... moreLet's not forget that this doesn't serve as a spiritual successor to the SE series, if we consider that this doesn't have a 16:9 display, an LCD and a fingerprint sensor. The same applies to the lack of a physical proximity sensor and support for magnetic accessories.

Too much features missing to be worth €700 at 128GB:
Screen with notch still 60Hz and no dolby vision hdr
                        Less brightness than 16
Gpu with less cores than 16
1 single camera and doesn't have sensor shift ois
                        Still wifi 6
                        No uwb
No magsafe and only 7.5w wireless

This is the true "banana head" iphone. Just search a bit and buy the 16 for the same price or buy a 15 pro at same price from last year.

The main issue with this is the pricing. It’s way too high for what you get.

Apple also made a mistake by calling it a 16 and attaching it to an iPhone generation. SE devices were their own category and seemed to be updated every few years. Now, with successive iPhone generations (17, 18, etc.), this device will age faster.

Also, putting 16 in the name naturally invites comparisons to the rest of the 16 range. It’s too close in price and a big enough downgrade to not do well there. As the latest the SE, and again with a starting price closer to expectations of that range, Apple could have marketed this as a decent upgrade over the SE 3rd gen.

Keeping the 15 around makes no sense to me either, it’s going to be a tough day at the office for the poor Apple sales people having to rationalise the spec and price differences between this and the 15 to any customer looking at the ‘budget’ end of the iPhone range.

How could anyone be interested in this phone, when there are countless better options available, for the same amount or less? The design and the specs of this phone are so comical, that when I saw it, I thought it was a prank. Yet, here we are, and Apple is actually releasing this absolute rubbish. Having said that though, iSheep hipster lemmings will still purchase this device, because they only care about the Apple logo on the back of the phone, and not what the phone has to offer.

apple should've named 16a rather than 16e. (a-PPL-e: ahead not behind)
design would be combination of se 2020 and 16, how?
                                  - trim upper bezels to just earpiece size and lower bezels just to place touch id to extend the screen size to 5.7 inches. (for lower price) and this will keep the display ratio to current phones (5.7=4/6, 6.1=2/6, 6.3=2/6, 6.7=2, 6.9)
                                  - front camera with punch hole style , no notch (stay morden with future iphone designs)
                                  - less ram but more storage (for iphone this is better for longer run)
                                  - single color, apple signature grey (for lower cost)
