Nick Tegrataker, 26 Feb 2025Oppo's RAW Plus, Vivo's SuperRAW, and Xiaomi'... moreWhat I meant is that now at start of pipeline today 10-bit raw with single conversion gain is found, it'll change to at least 14-bit raw with dcg/dag when all sensors have those because they already started with implementation when only 1 sensor supported 14-bit raws.

vik457, 26 Feb 2025No, it doesn't need to be a small sensorAlop uses lens on top of the prism. So if one dosen't use small sensor the camera bump is going to be even bigger for the same focul length without widening the aperture.
Sure it has the capability to make the aperture wider. But that will further increase camera bump.
Also it's a Samsung tech. It's made to substitute the small sensor they use.
Well yeah, one can tweak it a bit.

Anonymous, 25 Feb 2025Some people (or me) just prefer depressing (or, wait for it... moreIt's 2025 and there are people who still stubbornly believe cameras on Apple and Samsung phones have great colour accuracy when, in reality, Xiaomi and BBK care a ton more about achieving an "authentic look" of a photo. indlvarn, 25 Feb 2025In Pixels you can tweak brightness, white balance, sharpnes... moreNo, I don't think you can tweak sharpness on the Google Camera app even if you go into the Pro mode.
Also, as far as I'm aware, Google Camera doesn't offer any alternative colour or tone curve mode - Vivo's Zeiss Natural is noticeably flatter than both Texture and Vibrant, and Xiaomi's Leica Authentic gently lifts darker portions of an image to avoid harsh tonal transition in shadows, but Google has nothing like that in comparison.

Anonymous, 25 Feb 2025Basically sony, asus and motorola have unprocessed raw.
A... moreOppo's RAW Plus, Vivo's SuperRAW, and Xiaomi's UltraRAW are all multi-frame composite RAW modes. However, they also give you an option to shoot in standard RAW, in case you prefer that.
From what I can tell these composite RAWs are *not* demosaicked, and neither have they been post-processed in any way (No colour grading, no sharpening/noise reduction baked in), which ensures that you still have total control over how details and contrast are supposed to look just like you do in a regular RAW. The same goes for Google Camera's HDR+ RAW.
Apple's ProRAW and Samsung's Expert RAW are both demosaicked and have heavy denoising and sharpening baked in. Apple's implementation is too novice-friendly and I find it offensive enough, but Samsung is quite something else in this regard - A total joke of "50MP" Expert "RAW" that is full of fusion artifacts and ugly sharpening. Yikes.
"I use dng and simply convert to jpeg with at most lowering exposure"
I'll give you a hint, use a GCam port and expose for highlights (i.e. Save bright sections of your photo even if it ends up underexposing the whole frame), then apply Adobe's AI Denoise on the HDR+ RAW images you have got.
Stacking multiple frames lowers the noise floor hence effectively improving the dynamic range, allowing you to edit images a lot more aggressively. On top of that, AI Denoise would let you shoot 2.5-3 stops above your preferred ISO range without substantial compromise in image quality. It's a highly recommended setup for phone photography which is usually limited by a small, noisy sensor.

Is almost 100% that Xiaomi will go global while the other 2 will remain in China. As a big fan of the symmetrical Huawei's cameras and Mate series designs, I am excited to see this design mode forward with other brands sort of, at least the big-@ss round main-camera island. Xiaomi Ultra phones have already gone a long way with Leica and somehow conservative processing. Vivo pros/ultras have already done leaps and bounds with their Zeiss partnership. Better competition just makes everything better for everyone, more for the end-users.
