walkman8, 27 Feb 2025Seems like GSMArena is already testing it, battery life is ... morei wouldn't really count these, apart from the selfie cam one, as cons. The display size does not matter at all after 6.73 inches, i put an S25 Ultra beside my S22 Ultra and they both look so similar that you'd be mistaken into thinking they're the same size. IP69 is also no biggie, it's a nice to have if you somehow dive into water jets but other than that i dont see it as a must have.
The 3x tho is a must have. I wish it were 2.8x but apart from that it's absolutely crucial. Each focal length from 24 mm is going to be well represented on the Xiaomi and portrait taking is going to be a breeze. Sometimes, you might be lacking space for a 100mm shot but you might have enough space for a 3.2x shot, I've faced this issue numerous times. A 2.5-3x is a must. Admittedly the 3.2x is really stretching it but i cant say no to more stuff, the 3x is an excellent addition still.
My main issue is the selfie cam, this cam has been used since the Xiaomi 12 series. And it's not an excellent sensor either so like, i just find it to be an extremely weak aspect of the phone. But considering the fact that they squeezed both a 100mm 1/1.4" sensor AND an excellent 3.2x alongside the amazing 1 incher, i'm gonna give em a pass. Hope by next year Chinese manufacturers let go of this selfie cam. Vivo's already started using the JN1, hope they all start using ultrawide JN5s.

Tbh, a bit of disappointment with this year Ultra.
Basically nothing much has improved, they probably will push the a software update to the 14U and make new ultra looks good.

The irony of Samsung having such a great camera, but not using it on their own flagship.
Anyhow, like usual a warning that chinese prices are much lower than western ones, this thing will be same price as S25 Ultra here.
However if you care about camera and hate Pixels, this Xiaomi will be a amazing pick for that.

AnonD-1187531, 27 Feb 2025I'm sorry Vik. I'm kinda lost here. I said I saw ... moreYeah, in some sense it feels like a downgrade in hardware. But I know it'll be better, because it's not just about the hardware but also the lens quality and software. Still one of the best cameras in your pocket, especially against the best from Apple, Google, and Samsung.
I still think the best overall is going to come from the Chinese Handsets, the latest Ultra from Vivo and Oppo. No, the latest Sony handset is far behind, even OnePlus is ahead of them.

Seems like GSMArena is already testing it, battery life is beastly.
Allegedly Bluetooth 6.0. Typo by GSMArena?
But...still not my cup of tea. They're SO close!
-same old 32mp selfie
-3x optical zoom is pointless with the secondary 4.3x zoom sensor. If it were 2x or 2.5x,it would perfectly close the gap in 1x-6x optical quality photos/videos
-no ip69
-same old 6.7" screen. It wouldn't kill them to reduce the screen to body ratio either by making the phone smaller or give it a bigger screen within the same footprint
These aren't deal breakers by any chance. Hell, this is as deserving to carry an Ultra as it gets these days (unlike another mid Korean Ultra, ahem)

AnonD-1187531, 27 Feb 2025I think it was the IQOO 13. Right, so GSMArena says there that UFS 4.1 brings some optimizations such as efficiency, thermal performance and latency, rather than faster data transfer. But when they tested the iQOO 13, it was with UFS 4.0, while 4.1 had to arrive through a software update.

Zak3, 27 Feb 2025Why does it matter if you'll get the same result? No processing or Exmor T can beat a great one incher. It's just how pixels work.

Zak3, 27 Feb 2025Why does it matter if you'll get the same result? But will you get the same result? Cause after all, according to physics, the bigger the senor, the more light it can let in, and the better image it can produce. So I'm not exactly convinced that the 1/1.28" Exmor T would produce better results than the 1.0" LYT-900

It is possibly rather a 92.5mm equivalent periscope camera. Theoretically, a 100mm equivalent periscope camera with an f/2.6 lens and this sensor size would have an effective lens diameter of approximately 10.16mm, but Xiaomi said that the diameter of the periscope camera is 9.4mm, lower than expected and lower than the current record of 9.89mm (Honor Magic7 RSR). This means that the focal length is lower than expected.
It should capture 47% more light per exposure time from distant objects in comparison with the Xiaomi 14 Ultra (Xiaomi's 136% more statement is misleading because it includes the light you capture from the additional field of view) and you should still get more pixels per object than with a Vivo X100 Ultra. More pixels per object than with any smartphone camera on the market: You should theoretically get 12.5 megapixel at 370mm (or 400mm, if the field of view is 100mm and not 92.5mm). Though the Tetra²pixel array as well as the 2x2 OCL array or the use of analog binning could reduce the effective resolution extremely.
