Wolf61, 28 Feb 2025Haha 😂 try to put your m50 in your pocket on the go Mr toddlerThat wasn't the discussion here, was it? The lie was that a massively superior system camera is more expensive than a flagship smartphone. Which they aren't. They cost around a third of a top tier camera phone.

I have a tiny shoulder pack for it, and a larger backpack if I want more than one lens with me. It is really not that complicated.

Wolf61, 28 Feb 2025Haha 😂 try to put your m50 in your pocket on the go Mr toddlerGiven the huge difference between the devices' outputs, "user experience" etc. etc., it really doesn't matter much. If I don't have my actual camera on me, I don't really have a camera. Just as I wouldn't call 50 people to a party and play music on a phone's speakers or make a "movie night" where people would watch a movie on a phone's display, despite it having both speakers and a display.
Equally so regarding camera(s), a phone is useful to be able to convey a visual information, e.g. "Look what I saw!" along with a picture captured with it, but is rarely able to do more than that.

It depends, of course, on the individual's standards, needs, wants... 🤷‍♂️ I do however still find it funny that people discuss the miniscule pros and cons between phones' cameras to such lengths and buy high-end phones for 1,5 k € for its camera(s) when any used real camera for a few hundred beats them all with as huge a difference as hearing a symphony on phone speakers vs. at a concert played live by an orchestra.

Maybe, and that's just maybe, Xiaomi people got some rundown sheet what they need to do to an image in post processing but that's about it. I would bet it's the other way around, Xiaomi people have went to Fuji showed them their image retouch and Fuji said that's fine by us and you need to pay us XXXXXXXX amount of dollars to endorse that. That's how it was done most likely.

No matter how much AI sauce you can throw into the computational processing algorithm, it still won't be a true optical zoom mechanism.

Having said that, for everyday casual photography, mainly on the streets, I keep my Mirrorless camera behind since my current daily phone (Sony Xperia 1 IV) can shoot great photos even in Auto mode. I rarely use manual mode on my Xperia anyway.

ProMaxUltraAreBricks, 28 Feb 2025Another 'co-developed' camera partnership. Get re... moreIt's not just colour saturation; hue shifts and tone curves also need to be taken into account when it comes to preset. For instance, Fuji's new Reala Ace Film Simulation flattens shadows but makes highlights look harsh and punchy, hence giving off a totally different impression of a scene depending on whether you have a strong light source/brightly lit area in your image or not.

While most camera companies do not officially disclose their colour profiles, Fujifilm goes far and beyond to prevent people from reverse engineering their Film Simulations. For instance, their X RAW Studio, a desktop RAW developer app, cannot be used without you having your computer and a Fuji camera physically connected with a cable because all it does is to use the camera's internal processor to perform any sort of edits. They may be "just" presets, but they carry a lot of weight when they are a huge part of your brand strategy.

"If you want actual good professional photography devices, buy a camera"
You're missing the point. Having a lot of presets is nice because it allows you to focus on composing the frame without thinking about how the photos will turn out after the edits. The entire point of a compact camera is that you can always carry it with you, and in most cases, you can just snap and look for another subject to shoot. Fuji's X100 series or Ricoh's GR series are absolutely NOT professional photographic devices, but a lot of people still pay a lot of money for them and have a genuine fun with it.

As for how sharp it can be, mate x2 or latest xperia hi res on photo tool here can show, so can iphone and samsung results show and those 2 can do hi res in raw too, mea ing more quality as you can process it even better in pro raw image editors.
As for colors, I recommend you look at samples even here in gsma tool (or basically anywhere) where samsung(or sony) is on one side, oppo, vivi,... on the other side, it's visible specially when you compare to foldables - interestingly, even samsung foldavles got better colors despite poor hardware...
You can also see comparisons of phone raws to camera raws to understand how yellow, brown and other tint comes to be on small sensor... some can process those colors back to how they should be, some just out that poor colors as it is...

I don't like the 23mm fov as main lens. A dedicated 35mm as generic lens makes more sense. And the ultra wide is a big improvement! It looks like a phone that doesn't make any compromise on any lens. I hope that ultra wide gets ois too, for the videos mainly.
