My mom have the A14, and I would like to upgrade her to the A56 or A36. She doesnt want to use a non-Samsung phone, so Poco/Xioami/etc is not an option. And I would want her to have a new phone rather than an old flagship. The S24FE is out of my budget currently since it is $150 more expensive than the A56 here.
So far I've been eyeing the A36 since it's cheaper and I can use the extra $100 or so to buy cases and charger, but I dont know if it that much of an upgrade over the A14. The A56 have a 40-50% faster soc than the A36. Should I go for the A56 or A36? I would want her to use the phone long term. Anyone have experience using the previous A35 and it's day to day performance?

Anonymous, 09 Mar 2025Well, they took out the sd card slot while having 6-7 years... moreSd card full of roms will only slow down the phone. Even best phones still have slow reading speed of sd cards

I have both an a54 and an a52s 5g, both have the micro sd slot and the a52s 5g also has the 3.5 jack.
I'm holding onto both of them, before buying a new mid-range I'm waiting to find one that at least has the micro sd slot.
bye bye samsung

A56 - just buy S24FE
A36 - just buy A26
A26 - buy if cheaper than A35, for the better hardware than A16
A16 5G - if you really need 5G and the updates
A16 - best entry choice
A06 5G - if you really need 5G
A06 - if you just want a phone

The only Samsung can argue just for long-term Software upgrade but there's Apple iPhone can easily competed with them. Then why the reason for us to buy Samsung midrange????

IMHO, The headphone jack and the SD card slot were differentiators of the A series when compared with the mid range of other brands.
Without these features, its kind of hard to justify Samsung's higher prices.
Otther brands apear have better and cheaper options.

No sdcard slot storage expansion is a deal breaker. Why would you buy a samsung midranger now instead of getting one of the better hardware smartphones like the Poco X7 pro, Nord 4, Realme GT 6T, nothing phone 3a, etc.

The A56 is cool, but somewhat too pricey.
The A36 on the other hand, is just disappointing. The chip's not much better than the A35.
A26, not very cool - they had to downgrade one thing, the stereo speakers to mono.

It's nice to see that the A56 is not more than 200g in weight. But it's sad to see virtual proximity sensor and optical fingerprint scanner in A56 and A36. My dad uses an A34 and I find the its fingerprint scanner to be frustrating to use, so we'll see if there's any improvement this time around.
My mom needs a new phone. Overall, if the price gap between A56 and A36 is not too much in my local shops, then I might pick the A56 (but otherwise I think I'll get the A36).

YUKI93, 09 Mar 2025At this point, all I care is the Exynos 1580 performance in... moreSadly, it doesn't. Synthetic benchmark favor Exynos 1580 by just 17% in CPU tests. So, not a huge upgrade. GPU is better: ~ 30% increase. It's basically an A55 with upgraded SoC and charging. Also, screen got a bit brighter. That's it. No SD slot, though. I guess the age of innovation has dawned. And this is true for most brands. Even ye olde A52s is good enough for today's needs.

Looks like samsung deliberately crippled A56 to force customers to consider FE phones.
